Can anyone provide a step-by-step guide to removing and refitting the centre console on a Mk2 Leon FR (pre-facelift)?
By centre console I mean the moulding that goes between the seats for the cup holders, handbrake, mirror control, etc.

I want to see how difficult it might be to do this (and any special tools needed) as I have a badly repaired unit (not by me) that I'm getting fed up with.
I'm not a complete numpty but also not a skilled mechanic!

Move front seats as far back as possible.
Switch off ignition and all electr. loads.
Take out the ignition key.
Put on the hand brake.
Disconnect the vehicle battery

Special Tool numbers are trim removal tools
– Unscrew bolt -4- and put down.
– Loosen side cover on centre console -3- with lever -U 30800-.
– Unscrew bolts -5- (2x).
– Loosen stowage compartment -6- with lever -U 30800- and disconnect connector.
– Loosen switch cover -10- with aid of lever -U 30800- and disconnect connector.
– Loosen hand brake cover -2- with aid of lever -U 30800-.
– Remove mounting frame and dust guard from switch shift lever abnehmen.
– Loosen rear cover on centre console -8- with aid of lever -A 71101- and loosen connector from socket depending on version.
– Unscrew bolts -9- (2x).
– Remove centre console -1- in direction of -arrow-.

Brilliant - thanks for the info Tim.

I guess most trim removal tools would do the job Mike. I seem to remember there was some info on here a while back - and a quick search on ebay shows very similar stuff in kits.

Looks like I have a little project coming up....

Sorry to drag this thread up... But I am wondering if this will be exactly the same removal in a Facelift model?!

Should be very similar if not identical. There is very little difference with the centre console on the pre and FL models, just the USB and i-pod sockets.

Thanks Timsawf, I'm wondering if I should give it ago without the trim removal tools... But wondering how horribley wrong it could go without them!!

I'm looking at just taking the centre console out (the bit between the seats) so hopefully won't have to get any where near the vents!!!

Does anybody have any pics of the centre console area when it has been removed!! Just want to know what is underneath the cup holders at the rear of a facelift?!

KEL ;)

Hi all

I need to remove just part 8 in the above pic - to replace the 12V outlet. Can this be done without taking any more of the surrounding console out? I've tried by hand but it feels like I'll break something if I use more force.

Part 8 is just clipped in. I've had mine out a few times. If you start are the bottom of it and prise it away using a knife or something it will come out. It is quite stiff though.

Sorry to drag this thread up. I need to remove #10 as the spare button has fallen through will it just pop out as its got clips?

Hi i was wondering if it could be possible to take out my centre console from a mk2 leon to retrofit a different one for example golf centre console with armrest? Would the clips and holes etc match similarly or would it not even fit. Also if anyone has done this before if you could direct me towards it. Thanks.
