As Havoc316 says, get a report on the car advising the dealer that you had contact with the kerb and are looking to check what damage has occurred to the car.

Phrase is important here so that there are no legal worries if it all goes to pot.

If he has no insurance, your insurance legal team can reclaim from him. Might keep your renewal premium up until it gets resolved so play it by ear and see how it pans out.
Also make sure you report it asap.

Dunno much about cars, but I know a thing or two about metal - even if you repair that alloy, it'll physically look fine, but the metal has been stressed, nothing to say next time that happens that even the repaired alloy won't completely give way.

had an accident further details

Thanks to all who have posted, here is a full description of what happened and what my plans are now:

How the accident happened

I was driving along a dual carriageway in the first lane, the person who hit me was in front of me at the time but then went into the 2nd lane.

We were approacing a set of traffic lights which were green and he was in the second lane approaching stand still traffic the 2nd lane is used to go straight as well as right. As there were cars turning right it was at a standstill.

My lane is free so i carry on in my lane, just as we came side by side he pulled out into my lane.

As it was raining he said that he braked and the car started to skid towards the car in front of him in the 2nd lane so he just pulled into the first lane at which time i was alongside him. He acctually wanted to go straight so why he didnt stay in the first lane i will never know.

He hit my driver side front wing (pic attached) with his left hand wing
not that clear but gives an idea its not dented majorly but it is visable. http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sideviewfontrightqb3.jpg
http://img264.imageshack.us/my.php?image=frontrightsideon1hw2.jpg
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rightwingbirdviewll7.jpg

and scuffed the alloy where his left front wheel hit my right alloy. (see pic)
http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wheelscuffedfrzj9.jpg

As a result of his motion from right to left he pushed my car towards the kerb where it has wacked onto the kerb and broken the front left alloy, the rear left alloy is fine so it was only the front left that got hit i believe.

what i have done thus far

As soon as the accident happened i took the above pics of the damage to his car and my car

He said i will repair the car by taking it to his cousins friends bodyshop. At first i was like dont know about that. But he called me and reassured me the work would be done to a good standard etc etc.

I got to work and called my insurance company straight away to tell them about the accident, i gave them his name, address, insurance policy number ( i am not sure if it is real as he seemed to know it off hand -- maybe he was driving a friends car who he called and got the details from) and told them what had happened, But i do know his name is correct as he also showed me his university membership card which had his name on it as well.

My insurance company said take it to our approved bodyshop and they will kick of the process of repairs.

That afternoon he called and asked me to come to the garage where the repairs would be done, I went there and the owner was like i need to treat you like a full paying customer and i will do a proper job, i will take you with me to get a geomotry check done as well as repairing your front right allow scuffs and your right wing. My car does pull to the left when i drive also which may prove there is underlying problems.

Since then the person who hit me called me on thursday evening was supposed to look for a replacement alloy which he hasnt found as they are discontinued, he then said he will look into repairing it. I said to him as they are discontinued this is unfortunate for you as i will need a full set of alloys and if you dont want to go through the insurance the only way i will do so is if you pay for all repairs on the body work, geomtry check as well as replacing the 4 alloys.

I gave him 2 options and told him he needed to let me know by friday what he wanted to do

1) go through the insurance
2) buy me a set of alloys, get the car repaired for the body and any problems found with the geomtry check.

He still hasnt called me so i now i am going to go through the insurance

I rang my insurance company on the thursday also to ask about my alloys they said that they will give me cash in lieu for the damaged alloy (front left) I said the front right one is also damaged so they said they would give me money for that one as well. Not sure if they will as it is scuffed rather than damaged see pic) http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wheelscuffedfrzj9.jpg

The rear two they said they will try and claim of the insurance of the guy who hit me as it is a discontinued make so they would need to get a complete set. I said what if he hasnt got insurance they then said we can try and claim money directly from him in that case.

So i am now going to take my car to the garage to get it looked at.

My front right wheel is just bordering on illegial currently as the inside tread is wearing thin. Should i replace this tyre before taking to the approved bodyshop as they might say it is illegial and invalidate my insurance??

My other question is that i know approved bodyshops try and get as much money as possible from the insurance companies. So do you think they will push through a set of alloy wheels in the quote they send to my insurance company???

Also since the accident i have had some neck pains and right side of my back pains so i am also thinking of claiming for personal injury.

The only thing i am now worrried about is that the guy i hit could get one of his friends to pretend that he saw the accident as a passer by and say it was my fault when it wasnt, I think from the damage on my car it is apparent that i was in a left lane, he was in the right and the impact came from the right as my left alloy is also damaged.

Thanks again to all and look forward to some good advice.

Dont think he told his insurance of what happned!

If he pull out a friend of the street, you should do the same! Play the same game, plus you have pictures as well! to back you case up!

these kind of accidents should go staright through insurance!

Not quite the same, but when on track during the summer i had a bump in the same area as you (i lost it at a chicane and as i was trying to catch the slide the guy behind me tried to pass....)

Result was an impact in the same are of the car - front wheel and front bumper..... Damage was, Intercooler cracked (it's inside the front wing), steering arm twisted & tracking knocked to fcuk - along with the usual scrapes/dents. thankfully the alloys i use are very strong so not damaged in any way :)

Go through your insurance (thats what you pay it for) and get it fixed right, the cosmetic side of things is not a big issue, but what happens if the susspension collapses or drops off, of due to it getting hit is putting preasure on the driveshafts (and on to the gearbox)......

Also inform your insurance of everything that happened (including the fact the guy was by himself) in WRITING, include copies of any/all piccies you got and send it SIGNED-FOR.

i work in accident repair and that alloy CAN NOT BE REPAIRED AND IF IT IS IT IS DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT REPAIR IT!

ive had cars in at work with a minnor kerb scrap on the rear alloy and we have had to replace the whole rear axle you will be a lucky boy if that axle isnt bent!!!!!!!! (if that fcuked alloy is on the back iirc)

the wing is a simple repair job get it fully inspected and tracked up and then send him the bill! DONT LET HIS COUSIN DO THE SEARCHING AS HE IS OBVIOUSLY GONNA DO A CHEAP 1 FOR HIS COUSIN!!

good luck mate!

thanks guys, going to call my insurance later on today.

I need to know whether my front right tyre needs replacing before i take it to the garage as i dont want them to say that my tyre is illegial before i get there???

The inside track of the wheel is wearing thin whereas the rest of the wheel still has few months life in it

What do you guys think?

Also do you think i will get tyres from the insurance as well. as i might have to buy 4 tyres for the new alloys, hoping my current 225 45 17 will be good enough for the new alloys?

hi guys not sure if this post will be read. I am going through insurance and my car is with the garage at the moment.

A call operator from the insurance company said on the phone once to me last week that they would replace the ALLOY WHEELS and TYRE for the damaged tyres and alloys on my car. I made sure i made note of this comment and got a call from the file handler today informing me my policy doesnt cover alloy wheels. DAMN, I remembered the conversation I had with the guy so told her to check the voice recordings.

She called back few hours later to offer me approx 600Pounds for a new set of alloys and wheels

So i now have 600 pounds to spend or so to put alloy wheels on my car. I would love to fit the cupra R front bumper to the car as well as get some new alloy wheels and tyres for my car. Can anyone give me any advice as to which ones i should go for ?? If i have got some money spare after i would love to purchase the cupra r front bumper with it.

Any suggestions what would look nice, can i have 17" or 18"?
