Hi people,

im looking at replacing the LC come september and had my sights on an import 350z for about 15k but have had 2nd thoughts due to the area i live in. Now im trying to think what to get next?? My LC is standard and i fancy the idea of a revo'd LCR will i notice a massive difference in speed? If not the LCR what else, a S3 or a DC5 integra (maybe to harsh a ride?) or any other ideas? I need something that is fast but looks good for work etc

why worry where you live? if its rough then surely what ever car you get will be at risk? just get the car you want and be done with it ;) im going to change my lcr this year, ive lost 2 grand in exactly 1 year (i paid 12) at this rate this time next year it will be a 8 grand car, so ill take my loss this year i think

yeah thats true but its just i reckon a 350z is a few steps on from a cupra and perhaps more attractive to keyers etc although ive not had any issues here with my car.

Depends what you want..... if its speed, then a Revo'd LCR will be quicker than a 350Z, but if you want something that little bit special, then the 350Z would be a better bet (not saying the LCR isn't, but not as much as a 350Z).....

As for your area, you're the best person to make that judgement, to be honest, I can't see much more risk with a 350Z than a LCR... if you dont want to draw attention, don't get a yellow one ;)

Edit: What about a second hand Astra VXR... awesome bit of kit...

RX-8. Its cheaper than the 350z, but does the same thing. I had one..............very nice. But be warned.........its very very thirsty.

I think the RX-8 is a beautiful car, love the design features, but in my opinion is rather soul-less. My cousin lent me his for a week while he was away on holiday (it was the lower powered one), and it was very nice, but boring. The 350Z has a fantastic sounding 6 cylinder engine, 286bhp as standard, looks good and has a fantastic chassis. I'd pick a powerful rear wheel drive car over an LCR or any other FWD car any day - but that is just my driving preference.

I agree with the RWD part. Although i wouldnt say the RX-8 was souless. I had the high power version. And whilst it doesnt have the engine note of the 350zi it has far more practicality in terms of seating. And is easier to drive and enjoy.

The engine note is very high with the RX-8 being a rotary. But that in itself makes it different to the many cars on the road. You can always change the exhaust if you want a more throaty noise.

Also.......greddy do bolt on turbo kits for them now which are only 3k fitted. Which is dirt cheap reallly.

I had to have a RX-8 over a 350z as i have a 6 month old baby......so 2 seats were useless.

Interesting I considered the RX-8 before I bought the FR. But what I found in my testdrives that you really have to floor the car to get any fun out of it. I reckon although its cheap enough to buy considering the spec. features, interior is gorgeous but I'm sure it would give only something like 15mpg in reality...???
Recently an independant research company acting on behalf of Mazda phoned me up to find out why I didn't buy the Mazda and paid me 30 quid -so I'm not complaining:)

what kind of mpg were you getting out of the RX-8?

No doubt a moified LCR will be quick but with the New Leon cupra coming out perhaps towards end of the year I think you'd be wasting your money going for one..unless you really do like it.

A 350Z on the other hand is a very suitable contender -rear wheel drive, and now with the more powerful version its quick, very quick and sounds goregous!! My brother had one for the weekend as he's thinking of buying one.
That V6 sounds glorious, its loud so I guess thats why Nissan have put a powerful stereo in!
If you don't need 4 doors and a lot of space the 350z would be excellent!

If it was me, I'd also think about the BMW Z3M Coupe - either love it or hate it styling, fantastic playful RWD chassis, one of THE best engines on the whole planet and goes like stink. Also not a common site, so exclusivity factor too. If you could stretch to one of the last off the line, they were fitted with the lastest S54 3.2 engine out of the current M3 (as opposed to the S52 from the E36 shape Evo, which is very very good but has a few more potentially expensive issues).

I get 18-22mpg around town with my M3-engined Beemer - but it is quick enough to justify it (plus I don't use it every day!)

I would deffo go for the 350z I think they look like the old American muscle cars like the cobra and alike. Where as the RX8 is a nice car just as said before misses that spark and well there common as hell.

Reg that zm3 is sweet mate id love a go in one! im saving for a new m3 at the mo ive talked myself into getting the smg version with launch control over the manual just to be a bit different,

Very nice Riddick, you couldn't go wrong with manual or SMG. I have driven both, and think they are great, although for my money I still don't think you can beat a good old stick shift. A friend's brother works for BMW, so now and again get the opportunity to play with some nice toys. Last summer he bought home a cancelled order for the weekend. It was a convertabile SMG Individual with some weird custom colour paint and matched leather. Very nicely done, but very much a girls colour. Didn't stop us taking it to a big industrial estate to play with launch control though! I wouldn't get to used to it on a car you're paying for, it will knacker the clutch after 5-7 full bore starts, but my god is it impressive! That car also had an obnoxiously loud AC Schnitzer cat-back system on it too, and while it was embarrasingly loud around town, it sounded great with the roof down going for it through the lanes. If money was no object, an M3 CS (not CSL) would be the first car in my grubby mits. Good luck with it mate!

are sounds like you had fun! when i say a new m3 im not getting a brand new one maybe a 04 plate, didnt know the cluth only lasts that long when you use launch control! hahah ill go test driving at neep bmw in colchester before i buy one then to get the hang of it!

mate in a place i work in has just got a 350z but hasnt taken delivery of it yet so that should be interesting. I hear what you say about the LCR 2nd hand value, id keep it for 2 years but i reckon id lose atleast 4k on it. BMW's arent my thing, like the M3 but its the tag that goes with it i dont like. RX8 is a bit gutless mates got one, inside they look great outside they kind of blend in, no were as good as the RX7 (in its day)
