I picked up my 2007 (07 reg) Seat Ibiza 1.2 Reference Sport last Tuesday.

The car has 14000 miles on the clock and I love it, great car.

One thing I didn't know however was the timing chain slipping issue on the 1.2 engines.

Does anyone know if SEAT actually resolved this issue. The reason I ask is because most of the threads regarding the timing chain seem to be on older Ibizas (from 02 - 04)

Just starting to panic a bit. I really don't want to encounter this issue.

Thanks

Delboi

Apparently Seat released a fix kit in around 2005, you should be ok with an '07. it only really effects the early mk4s though saying that mines done 72k and ive had no issues *touch wood*

stezo2k, thanks for your reply. You've put my mind at rest. I was up untiil 3:30 reading up about all the horror stories with timing chains on the 1.2. Got myself into a right state thinking I had bought a lemon.

I've had a good look on the website and saw the common faults for the MK4 Ibiza but can't seem to find a section which says common faults resolved on later models etc. Is there an official site or section of this site which outlines 'bugs fixed' ?

Again, thanks for your reply stezo2k.

Cheers

Delboi.

This is a horrible thing to say, but I've got a nasty feeling that a tech on one of these sites reckons that this area of the 1.2 engines is a design disaster area and the modifed parts just improved things - so there could still be a problem - but not as frequent as previously. I'd ask - write and send by recorded delivery, a letter to Seat UK - and make sure you get an answer and file that letter away somewhere safe while you have that car!

I have an 03 1.2 and will soon be hitting 56k. Still running well. *actually touches my shelf which is made of wood*
