HAYNES Manual

I wonder why Haynes dont do a Car Repair Manual for the MK2 IBIZA? I have a year 2000 one and I see their manauls only go up to 1999 MK1 shape.

I have contacted haynes but had no answer yet. Anyone found a car manual for this year?

I would guess there are two reasons - 1st of is that it takes a good while to make the manual, second is that many of the parts (bodyshell, suspension etc) are close enough.

Errr... hate to tell you this but 00-02 model is actually a mk3. Mk2 ran from 93-99 with a facelift about 96/97 depending on who you talk to. Mk1 ran from 85-93. Worth noting that the Haynes book for the mk2 doesn't actually cover all variants anyway - and some models that ARE covered are only partially covered...

Anyway, as stated, mk3 was in many ways a facelifted mk2 (albeit a pretty serious facelift). Many of the major mechanical parts carry over, if only because the cost of tooling up for a 3 year production run would be massive.

Haynes Service & Repair manuals are cr@p anyway - not a patch on the old Owners Workshop Manuals. But that's one of my little hobby horses that the regulars should be well aware of...

Well thanks for that bit of information _ really thought my 2000 IBIZA was a MK2 - so now I know.

The strangest thing about my car is that when I go to get parts for my IBIZA from a Motor Factors they have listed the wrong parts. Take for example I went to 3 Motor Factors for some spark plugs and they all brought out these 3-prong efforts with a thread that was also physically too big to fit into my engine. They all scratched their heads and said what kind of engine have you got then?

Thing is that I have an engine number starting with ALD and I reckon the majority start with AAU which althought they are both 1LTR engines they are completely different with diferent parts.

I have to agree now that Haynes manuals are not as good as they used to be and they are really expensive now. Thing thats frustrating is that I want a manual specific for my car not just one that shows a similar model with sections in the back for later vehicles and revisions.

The plugs for an engine number starting with ALD are long life (40k) single prong resistive with Platimum Tips which are shaped into a point rather than flat - but still not a patch on a lovely refreshing cup of Tea and dont get my goose a gandering one little bit !

Sadly those lovely people at Haynes phased out the Owners Workshop Manuals before they ever got around to producing one for the 93-99 (mk2) Ibiza. They don't write them anymore, and neither do they sell them. in cases where an OWM was ever produced for a particular model, I suggest trawling 2nd hand book shops, car boot sales and online auctions. I have both OWM and S&RM for my old mk1 Golf - I use the OWM as a reference at home before doing a job and copy anything i'm likely to forget - e.g. specified torques etc... S&RM for older cars are slightly better than the totally new ones as they are basically heavily editted OWM's...
