Head Unit Upgrade - Fascia Query - HELP!!!

Hi Guys,

So I decided it was about time to upgrade the standard head unit. Decided on a double din unit with the given dimensions of:

- Install Size:178mm×170mm×100mm

I then ordered a standard Seat Leon MK2 Fascia from eBay.

Both arrived on the weekend, and I was all excited about fitting it. I unpacked both and slid the HU into the fascia for a peak at how it’s gonna look…when the HU slipped straight through and I realized the hole in the fascia is way too big!

The surrounds which came with the HU are much too small to fill this gap.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a surround that will fill out the gap, or whether it’s possible to get a different size fascia?

Cheers

Hu Upgrade

Hi

Get one form the delaer, it will match colour and fit perfectly (and it was chepaer!)

I got the following for my 2006 Leon 19.TDI from my dealer

1P2 858 063 N87 - trim for RHD 2 DIN slot
5P0 857 232 A - black stowage shelf (to go under to make it single din)
1J0 858 137 B - clips you'll want 4-6 / 27p each

I have photos but can't post them yet

Sounds like you have the MFD style fascia, you need the Double Din one which should look perfectly square (the cutout). Dealer price is around £12ish

It's definitely the standard square double din fascia i bought. That's why I blindly assumed it would fit.

I'm guessing the HU isn't quite the full double din size.

I was under the impression that they are all standard size, single or double din... surely if it's a different size it wouldn't fit any car?

It's more likely you've got a duff fascia

What brand is the stereo, as above they are meant to be standard size. Or most likely as the post above you have bought a NON genuine fascia

Is an Eonon HU. Was stated on the description as Double Din....as was the fascia.

Here's a link to the HU:

http://www.eonon.co.uk/2 Din DVD Player/G2103VE.html

Here's a link to the fascia:

...Now I just need to find a way to get it to fit. Lol.

Fascia looks ok... looks like the one I got anyway.

Not sure what kinda dodgy site the headunit is on but it's blocked by my work's firewall. I'm putting 2+2 together and going to say it's that you've got a weird head unit. :D

It's an Eonon HU which I bought from Amazon. The link I put up was to the UK Eonon site just to show what model it was.

Did the Eonon come with the cage for fitting? The cage should be exactly the same size as the fascia hole... I'm assuming that the fascia you got looks just like the one in the picture on the ebay listing and they've not sent you the wrong one?

Sorry me again....

Just been looking at Eonon head units on Amazon and they appear to do 6.2" and 7" head units and refer to both of them as "double din".

Pretty sure 7" is the standard but I'm happy to be corrected

No it didn't come with the cage.

6.2" and 7" refers to the screen size. Mine is the 6.2" which has buttons around the edge and a cd slot at the top. The 7" has no physical buttons (all touch screen), and the cd slot is behind the screen. The units should still be the same double din size.

Ok Fair enough, I was just scanning them and noticed one person's review gave one of them 1* because the dimensions of the unit were not as described. Dunno if that's yours though... I'm really not being much help am I?

There are various sizes for double din, but the one you need is call a full double din. I know this because recently went through the same process. the double din cage you got is a universal cage which is about a few cm smaller. you need to get a full double din cage, and then when the mounts that go onto the hu, will screw into the cage, not clip, very similar to a Pioneer cage. I see that you are in Bristol, there is a store in Gloucester called Motor Mods that do them, they are £20.00 inc vat.

Excellent, thanks.

So just to check my understanding is right. If I get a bigger cage and screw the HU into it, it'll then fit the facia?

Will the cage come with a surround to cover the gap between the HU and Fascia?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Yes the kit comes with everything. I had a look around and I have a spare cage and mounting kit, no trim, if you are interested, but the trim you got with your original kit might fit. If not can you return your kit and get the correct one?
