Mine is a 57 plate pre-facelift, Well all I can say is damn, Didn't know I would have to do all that.

Is all that hard to do?

I can't find much on the AUX Pin SD Reader and the CAN Gateway stuff you have mentioned. You sure that's just for the RNS and not the RCD510?

Appreciate all they help guys.

Not too hard, just worth bearing in mind. Do-able as a DIY job or any auto electrician should be able to do it.

Applies to all the new radios (RCD/ RNS *10) as the pre-facelift doesn't quite have the same wiring. I'll try and find a link tomorrow evening but if you do a search on a forum for Pin 16 or Safe Pin something should come up. In regard to the AUX its only if you want to retain the socket in the centre console, the pin in the quadlock needs to be relocated.

SD Reader only applies to the RCD 510 and RNS 510 as they are very slightly too big to sit flush in the slot due to the reader, so you have to dremel a hole slightly.

CAN Gateway only applicable to pre-2008MY cars, yours might be ok. Check the 10th digit on the VIN is an 8.

Looks like all I need to do is the wiring for the safe pin as mine does not have an AUX port anyway, (Just gunna leave it in the glove box and use SD card)

Yeah the 10th Digit is an 8 does that mean mine will be OK for power?

Cheers bud.

I have been looking at the RCD510

They seem to be for VW, so what do they fit like, any cutting or extra wiring, all controls work ok?

Steering wheels controls will work OK by the looks of it,

Just needs to cut it a little bit of plastic for the SD Card reader, Although I am reliably informed by the chaps on here it's easy;)

You need to do something with a safe pin which I'm not even gonna look at till it needs doing.

If you want to use the AUX then you can re-wire but it's not massively necessary. Mine doesn't have AUX I've got the Ipod dock udner the seat so I'm ok.

There can be a power issue with them, But I'm still waiting for J400uk to get back to me as weather mine will be affected..

Ok. I suppose if you have an SD CARD then there's no need for an iPod connection.

So just cut some plastics from inside the dash, then slot, plug and play?

Sorry didn't realise you were waiting on my response. From what I've read 2008MY on newer (i.e. 10th digit in the VIN) is fine. My car didnt' have any issues. Its only the older cars with an earlier version of the CAN Gateway which seem to suffer.

Facelifts on other hand won't have the issue at all as they are too new and also won't need the SAFE Pin adding as its already there.

Cheers mate big help! Can anyone just confirm was J400 is saying? Just so I don't get in the car for work one morning and be buggered? ;)

Just the safe pin I need to sort out then!

Guys I would recommend taking a look at this thread if you haven't already, its a long read but has all the infos! Although its intended for the RNS 510 its equally applicable to both the 310 and 510 RCD/ RNS models.

That's what I'll be using as soon as mine HU comes, (Anytime after the 28th) Cheers mate.

 we should be fine then.

When are you fitting yours, have you sourced a HU yet?

Luke

Well it should be here anytime after the 28th, So hopefully as soon as it comes.

Year I ordered my headunit from Link And ordered the Facia from Seremotors on eBay, Let me know if you need a link.

What ome head units are actually dab, keeping looking but getting confused now

I think the RNS310/510 are but don't quote me on that.
