The weather has been pretty grey and murky recently so I've taken to driving with my headlights on all the time when I'm on the motorway.

If you physically turn the headlights ON yourself, every time you wash your windscreen, the car treats the headlights to a bath every time.

If the lights are in the AUTO position and they've turned themselves on, the headlamp washers only activate once every 3 or 4 times you clean your screen.

Anybody know why? Hahaha

It was only annoying for the first 100 miles or so today, because once the low screen wash warning comes on, the headlamp washers don't activate when you clean the screen.

Another 50 miles later the bottle was empty!

When I had an Exeo I was sure that the headlight washers worked on a long hold of the windscreen washers but a short hold of them just did the windscreen?

Seems the same on the new Leon I have too.

yup.no matter how headlights have been turned on the washers always work after you pull the leaver for slightly longer..
on the side note when I drove to Europe this winter I did not believe how much washer liquid this car takes! over 200 miles of driving in quite severe blizzard I went through 10litres(yes!!2,5 carnisters) of washing liquid!
