headlight issue

Hi everyone, First off i did have a browse through the posts to see if this had came up, if it has before im sorry to double post!

So ive come across a 2006 SEAT IBIZA 1.9TDi FR for sale that looks amazing. Though the guy was upfront and showed me an issue that has come up with it. I wanted to know everything i could before committing to a buy.

Pretty much when you turn the steering wheel with the lights on, the headlights flicker. Also you can notice a slight flicker to any lights inside, like a small surge. Is this a common thing in this model? is it easily fixed? going from an old banger this will be my first nice car, and I'm not very technical headed when it comes to cars, so any information would be seriously helpful!

The power steering on the Ibiza 6L is electrically powered, meaning it`s driven by a separate electric pump rather than being driven off the aux/fan belt. The headlights dim when you turn the wheel because this pump takes a lot of current when in use.

In other words, normal for this car!

I agree it's normal but it is worse if the battery is on the way out.

The other thing to check is the load signal wire in the engine bay near the gearbox - it can snap and cause charging problems. ( easy fix but can be used to get money off )

Good point, this gave me a steering warning light last winter before I changed the battery.

so this is not too much of a problem then? i was thinking that it might be something that would fail its mot, or lead to needing something costly replacing!

so do you get the steering warning light appear when you turn with lights on? or was that an indication that the battery had seen better days?

turns out im picking it up this weekend! will be part of the club!

Will probably be either a battery thats seen better days, or the load signal wire.

Both easy to fix, see here for the load signal wire

Welcome to the club I wonder how long it will take for the modding bug to bite...

ha! thats my thought exactly! ive always seen cars ive owned as an A to B thing and not something ive been concerned about, but im thinking that may just be changing! Though i dont have much knowledge on technical mumbo, but im sure soon enough ill be on here til the early hours and referring to it as my little girl!

Same as everyone mate, I moved from a Corsa C to my FR. I knew practically nothing technical about the Ibiza but I'm sure if you can try describe the problem or get pictures of it then someone will be able to help
