I know exactly the part you are on about, I have removed this on mine but didnt remove the rattle, I have a feeling its the cat rattling on mine.

So i guess the answer is yes you can remove it but thats just me.

I only know of the heat shield on the cat, removed mine a while back as it was rattling

The heat shield is there for good reasons normally, best bet is to make sure its fixed to the body properly and while under there have a good hunt around, if anything else is rattling, on one of my old cars it turned out to be a clamp on exhaust was hitting the floor causing a bloody annoying rattle.

Hope fully you will find one somewere, if not am sure that motorsport dealers etc have material that you can buy to make one fit.

I had Focus ST170 before the Leon and took all the heat shields off with no adverse effect. Reason for this was that for some reason the metal on the shields on the ST exhausts react with the metal used on the bolts that holds them in place and eventually break away from the mounts. I seemed to always have a rattling exhaust that was doing my head in, so it eventually resulted in me removing all of them. If you do remove it the biggest thing to be aware of is parking over long dry grass, which could result in the grass catching fire in the worst case.

Mine recently was rattling, no matter what i did to stop it it continued, then tried tighten the nuts that connect the shield to the CAT and they snapped lol so i just removed the whole bloody thing!
Problem solved..

How did you guys remove it? I can see some kind of nuts holding it on but they are really rusted so can't make out what kind of fixing it is.
