Hello for first time - tell me how good and safe - remap FR TDI 170

im in the same boat about remaps at the minute bit worried about problems with the car after the remap only had car (FR170) for 3 weeks and reading this i think ill be getting it done. next month if things go to plan got estimate of around 40bhp and 60 nm for £350 with a custom remap from vsport in sunderland only estimate cos they haven't actually done one before. they said the car will be in for around 3 hours is this a normal length of time?
any info would be great cheers!!

Im booked in the morra (Monday 21st) for a Custom Code phase 1... (J Gracie - Glasgow) Fingers crossed, cant wait now. Ill post an update through the week after a few trips to and from work (nice twisty A roads) for those that are interested. My insurance group (Sainsburys) quoted around a £70 premium increase, so all will affordably be above board too!

Slightly off the post subject but... my standard 17s will need to go soon though, looking at R8 or RS4 18s... Ill hopefully get the 17s posted for sale soon. Any steel wheel owners fancy a cheap upgrade?

let us know how your custom remap goes....... i'm a bit skeptical to take my FR to a tuner who doesn't usually tune VAGs.....


At the moment I'm torn between a Revo remap or one by the guys at p-torque (who seem very professional with their comments on this forum).

Am I correct in thinking there’s a flash counter on these cars ECUs that cant be reset?

So even if you do change the mapping and then change it back to the original it’s possible for the manufacture/dealership to notice that it’s been flashed X amount of times.

Thats a bit of a worry.....

Im hanging fire on 2 counts....

Firstly I love the car as it is and if i ever start to get used to it and yearn for more i know i can...

Secondly its relatively new with this engine, so id rather let others be the guinea pigs for now!

where do i buy these from? when i go on their site it says they are £450 odd quid. Also cannot see it on their website for the Seat Leon FR Tdi 170? any pointers

bought 1 for £400 and its going back. Firstly it knocked the Coil light on saying Fuel Management Problem and went in to limp mode and 2ndly it doesnt make that much difference if any to be honest. Done a 40 - 70 run in my mk2 fr tdi and it got 4.53 standard (using phone stop watch) and with the other map (roughly 205bhp) it got 4.5 dead so in reality 400 for nothing. its getting posted back on tuesday. even tried a hill next to my house and it pulls the same and doesnt feel no different. so put original map back on and dunno what to get now. all i say its between 2 well known companies.


This may just be my car but a dont think so....


would any remap company offer a trial e.g. take the map, tune it, take it out for 5-10 mins and see if your happy with it?

Please note. I am not saying dont buy this device, but i just had a bad experience with this. Support and customer service is truelly excellent no quabble just refunding straight away

Custom Code Remap Revisited

Bob, any update on your power train? Ive been full on with work recently but will hopefully get the Custom Code a soon as i can. Would be good to hear all is well with yer motor.

On another note, would a stealership be best bet for spoiler side skirts? Anyone?

Hi, D..B.. et al, sorry for being so quiet of late. The upside is that I've had a good few weeks to get to know the car better with its remap.
I've had several repeats of the burning smell, but it's never been too bad. I've worked out that it's the clutch slipping as I've also had it once or twice in first or second.
So, all in all, things are basically fine. Other than getting real torque in 5th and 6th gears where I had seemingly none before, the other benefit of the remap is that the throttle is a lot quicker to respond (can't remember if I mentioned that before) and makes the car....and this will sound tacky....safer to drive.
One slight niggle I have noticed however, is that the power curve isn't totally smooth with this remap; you get to a point in edging your foot down and you get a slight kick whether you want it or not, and that's not the turbo coming in.

A mobile service can be arranged, although its always nice to get the tuning done here.

You also get a good before and after comparison with the trip

I've just got back home from a long run up to P-torque in Wolves (a slight detour as I was originally travelling up to Brum for a meeting).....

Must say I'm very happy with the remap that I just forked out 300 odd smackers for!

Just FYI, I drive a FR TDi....

As always when forking out large sums of money I did my homework beforehand and p-torque came highly recommended from members on this forum who've had the stage 1 remap (not to mention a nice discount for forum members helped to sway things).


Anyways, after Will had finished the remap I took it for a test drive and could instantly notice the difference!

The acceleration is smooth between the lower gears, and in the higher gears you still have good pulling power if you put your foot down.

The power is there when you put your foot down and the engine is very responsive. At times I forgot I was driving a diesel car (until I stopped at the lights and heard the engine....).

I also noticed that the stutter that was quite evident in lower gears and low revs had disappeared!


It's great to drive now, and I'm just surprised that Seat don't actually sell the car with the engine already mapped to something of this calibre..... they'd get so many more buyers!!
I swear that this is how the FR should be!


Also another thing I've noticed is the increase in fuel efficiency....... Had a full tank when I left Brum, did 147miles and the needle has only just past the first dash (1/8th tank used) and the onboard display was showing 43mpg......
Then I did a short 30mile round trip to the gfs (in london) and got a similar reading.....
(I'm hoping this will be the first time i break the 500miles barrier in my FR)




Anyways, I was a bit hesistant in getting the remap but I'm definately glad I did get it done in the end!!



Also hats off to Will at p-torque.... very friendly bloke and was happy to talk shop about his work and stuff!

I think it's great when tuners and other companies spend time to come onto forums to offer their services!

Does anyone hav a view on bluefin for the FR TDI 170. I like the idea of being able to remove the remap quickly given potential problems with DPF as any remap must result in more fuel thus more soot and quicker build up in the DPF! Sounds like some very happy customers with p-torque though so worth considering.

Hi Dave

We have been tuning the 170PD for longer than any other tuner, and so far have had no DPF issues, and nothing but great feedback. The key is in the mapping to avoid any issues.

Being switchable isn't necessary with modern OBD flashes and counter resets. 90% of switchable options don't reflash your ECU each time, but simply switch between 2 programs within your ECU.....

Hmmm, I recently opened the bonnet - for the first time(!) - to top up the washer fluid and check the oil (I'm half way to the next service) and discovered discolouration of the engine cover - see picture. Looks like scorch marks. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the remap... I also notice that the drivers side of the bonnet where it meets the wing gets *extremely* hot when the car stands (engine off) after being used. Mine's a TDi FR. Has anyone else notice these scorch marks? Or the extremely hot bonnet/wing?
