Hello, new guy here - speakers...

Hi,

I've just joined, and am looking for advice regarding speakers, I have a 2011 plate Ibiza FR 1.4 (with the combo charge goodness) - everything is pretty awesome but I feel the speakers are somewhat lacking when the volume is turned up, they seem to loose clarity and the 'punch' just isn't there.

From searching this forum, I've found the speaker sizes for the front and rear are 16.5cm / 6.5in (not too bothered about tweeters really). However I want to keep the interior looking as standard as I can, preferably keeping the OEM speaker covers as well - is this possible?

Also, does anyone know what resistance rating the OEM speakers have, I'd like to get matched speakers if I can so the head unit doesn't have any problems driving them.

Hello there.... welcome to the forum.
Nice car. Hope you enjoy it.

The speaker covers will not be affected by you changing the speakers. The fronts are mounted to the door cards, but you will need to make mounts for them and fit them into the door yourself when you change them. I believe most people have made theirs from mdf.
The rears are mounted directly into cut outs in the steel work of the car and have no connection to the plastic trims what so ever.
I don't know what resistance they are though.

You could always get an amp with high level input and drive the speakers from that?

are the fronts really mounted to the door cards, no wonder the clarity goes when the volume is cranked.

I haven't really looked yet if I'm honest, anything is probably better than the standard ones though. Am open to recommendations?

Don't suppose any one knows of a competent auto electrician who has experience with the Ibiza trim removal procedures located in the Hampshire (or surrounding area) do they?

I have uprated the front component speakers & tweeters in my car along with a sub powerd by an amp
Not sure what your budget is but what I've done is £600+

ive got a pretty simple install in my car also now, but its still unfinished, currently has
fusion sub with mono vibe amp
lg m8600 head unit
kenwood 240w midrange components in the rear with tweeters to be fitted soon.
jus need to get a new single din facia panel and a decent amp for the internal components as head unit doesn have enough power to run the uprated speakers i want all round off its internal amp.

still very very loud at moment though

edit: only took me and me mate about 20-30 mins to change the rear components, took longer rewiring the head unit as i didnt have a harness adaptor, but ive only lost the steering wheel controls even wired in the aux port, can get pics if you would like

did you have any trouble with the wiring? where did you run feeds from for the amp?

only trouble was finding a way through bulkhead for power feed which goes down passenger side of car. audio feed goes down drivers side everhthing else is using factory wiring for now

guys, could anyone please tell me the OEM speakers'empedance to search for correct empedance alternative. won't bother with woofs or amps.
thinking of Polk Audio MM651 front and rear, or alike. is its 2,7 Ohms ok?
will standart headunit be enough for them without any amps?

impedance is really what I'm after too as its a hire car, they have given me permission to upgrade the speakers if I don't make any visual modifications to the interior etc.

also, as much as I would absolutely love a woofer in my boot (I imagine its epic for dubstep), I can't really afford to limit the boot space any more than it already is as standard.

A decent set of speakers will have to do me, I reckon the head unit can give out enough power, it certainly gives out more power than the OEM speakers can handle.

if your looking for more power then try a new headunit i know you are saying you reckon the headunit will give out enough power but after changing the headunit in a few cars with standard speakers the difference in sound quality is good, everyone thinks that standard speakers are rubbish which isnt the case it is usually just the headunit not being able to give the peak power output to allow the speakers to work to there full potential, don't get me wrong if you really want to get some good audio then change the headunit and speakers, if you just change the speakers you probably wont notice much of a difference as the headunit is still giving out the same amount of power as it was previously,

thanks for opinion!
however, wurely won't change the headunit to keep factory look. then the thing to find out is what the HU is capable of in terms of amplifying..

Wonder if the Blaupunkt THA 475 PnP amplifier can be adapted to the Ibiza ? - They seem to cater for many of the VW and Audi models

It uses a plug and Play cable between the OEM head unit and the speakers to add in the 4 x 75w RMS amp.
