Just round the corner.
Hey, mark!
I changed it myself, but it took 2 evenings.
I used Forge instructions on their web-site, just printed out and went"step by step".
It wasnt hard with proper tools.
About bumper- first remove all screws and further moves were like with engine cover- agressive pulling of. Be carefull - You have disconnect fog lights and headlight washer jets (if present)
 
I was thinking of putting an s3 intercooler on my TDI fr. Is that an straight forward replacement too?
 
Would obviously need fitting before the remap. Is it OK to fit with a standard car until the map is done? Is it the twin ones u have bought?

Benzy no reason at all to upgrade to a S3 intercooler on a 170 unless you are running Stage2+ mapping from Sh.ark which isnt road legal or you are running a Hybrid Turbo

The standard FMIC is upto the job
 
Thanks Andy. I'm only looking at going to stage 2. Not really interested in going all the way to get a plus sign :p

I am running with S3 intercooler without remap (its stock2.0 TFSi)
The only thing I mentioned was the fuel consumption DE-creased for 0,5L/100 km ;)
 
Your a 2.0TFSI though


Thread is about fitting to a PD170 2.0TDI and its not worth it until Stage2+ (Because of EGT's etc) or Big Turbo
 
I did a step by step photo guide when we change out the standard intercooler on my 2007 Cupra for the S3 Intercooler back in 2007. It should be on here somewhere still I would think. Failing that there is a guide on www.mk5golfgti.co.uk somewhere showing the same thing on an Edition 30.
 
The plastic end tanks on the Cupra/Cupra R intercooler are plastic screws and can't be used. I went to B&Q or the local hardware store to get the suitable bolts as they are definitely not compatible for joining on to the a/c core and radiator assemblies. I think you need 8-10 but could be wrong. Best thing to do is look at the intercooler, count the holes and pop in to buy some stainless ones.

Obviously you could get the proper ones ordered from Audi although I dont know the part numbers for them.

If you are doing this for performance gains and plan to keep the car and don't value the a/c much, you should consider ordering a shorter fan belt and removing the a/c core. By doing this all the cold air coming to the front of the car gets on to the intercooler and there is one less thing for your engine to push to work and of course a bit less weight :). TFSiMike and I have both done this.
 
No worries - forgot to mention you can dump te a/c pump too and that does weigh a few kg :)
