Today i did a battery relocation on my ibiza and now when i turn ignition off the date and clock resets to 0.00 and default date? ive not got a distribution block on it just run the wire from battery to starter motor then a wire from stater to fuse box surely thats the same:confused:?
All ideas welcome please

That's exactly how I have done mine and that's been working fine ever since I done it, so should work fine.

For me I done..

Negative to any ground point in the boot and the positive straight to a dizzy block then from dizzy block to starter motor and dizzy block to fusebox.

Sounds as if you are short circuiting somewhere mate - have you got an inline fuse at all in the positive cable 100a I believe is good, there are also 2 grounding point one on engine/ bell housing and under where the battery used to sit sort of to the right, if you're still using these points make sure they're in tact.

Thanks for all replys, i checked battery voltage and it was dropping to just over 10volts while cranking as ide forgotten to turn on my charger for a week or so:doh::whistle: all ok now though and ready for mapping on the 14th....
Im using 4awg

What battery are you using and do you ever have trouble starting the car with 4AWG? Some say it can't handle the current...

For me the choice of battery is the Odyssey extream 25 gel cell (identical to the Varly redtop) and the cable is 4AWG/25mm2, 600v heat resistant (105c max).
All works fine cable is more than capable of handling the current and battery is spot on to, hold's charge very well in all weather etc.
The biggest problem with this is people using badly fitting/ loosely crimped terminals on the cable, this WILL cause hot spots due to increased resistance, which people then mistake for the gauge of the cable not being big enough causing it to heat up.
So the up side of that is make sure all terminals are well fitted/crimped and silicone sleeve insulated to help prevent shortouts and to keep moisture out of the cable.

Very good advice cheers, where did you get the battery, cable and the terminals from?

i used a bmw battery re-location kit as you can pick these up for peanuts off tbay and the cables are plenty big enough (25mm)

Hi, battery came from SCA race & rally in Norwich (local to me) but if you google odyssey race battreys you will find plenty as lots of places now stock them over the varly battreys due to more availability, there not cheap though expect to pay £90+ just for the bat.
As for cable I got it from a cable wholesalers, paid £19 for around 30m, so much cheaper than any auto supplies ask any sparky round you way and they should be able to tell you the location of the nearest wholesalers.
As for terminals and silicone sleeves they came from my boyfriend works maintenance department  but any cable wholesaler should stock these also and they will beable to recommend the correct fit and type.
If you don't mind paying a little extra places like Merlin motorsport, rally design and Demon Tweeks will stock everything you need including the battery.

Thanks Tasha :D I shall do some pricing up today - there's loads of Odyssey batteries on eBay too :)

Bringing back this thread again, what has everyone done with the standard negative cable the runs from the negative on the battery, to the right hand side of the engine bay (under the battery ish) and then along and earthed on the bell housing (under the thermostat). I've dumped mine but wanted to know if the bell housing needed to be earthed?

Hi, I bined the bit from the bat to under the bat, and reconnected the bit from the bell housing to the little earth boss just behind the bat, think it had a little plastic cap on the nut iirc.:)
From memory there may be a brown cable earthed to the same point.

TBH I have no idea if it needs to be earthed or not, but on the basis that people buy earth kits for the engine I figured it couldn't do any harm and the cable was not in the way so I just re-earthed it.
