Really need a new clutch AGAIN. My southbend has give up after less than 3 months of being fitted and desperatly need a new one. Im wondering would a standard clutch with dmf take 324 ft/ibs torque or not? If not, anyone recommend me one that will thats NOT southbend and preferably NOT SMF as its too noisey for my liking?

Thanks.

Anerican clutches are pony!!

Get a helix clutch with smf! You may be able to use your flywheel!

Or if you want to have a dmf (wont last long at that torque) your choice has to be the sachs performance one

I will get back to you as my mate wit a stage one LCR bought a new clutch 6 months ago that is designed to take around 400 ft/ibs for around £700

/\ its on a 1.9 tdi not a 1.8t

My old helix

And my old sachs

Both are good clutches! Helix more so!

Heard bad things about these cheaper clutches

CG, awesome, southbend, techniclutch(lol)

Go for a good brand!

I have a Sachs ungraded paddle clutch with an OEM DMF on my fr. I've it on my car for a year and a half now and it's fine. My cars mapped to 185bhp and 320ft/lbs of torque, think the clutch is rated for around 380ft/lbs so its well able to hold the power.
If I was to buy a clutch again I'd go for the Sachs clutch with the organic friction disc, rather than the paddle clutch as the paddle clutch gives a bit of judder when taking of from standstill. Nothing major just a bit irritating when crawling in traffic in the morning. The organic friction disc is rated at 360ft/lbs (correct me if I'm wrong) so it will still be well able to handle the power you have. I've seen a lot of tdi's with the upgraded Sachs clutch and they have no issues with it. That's my recommendation anyway, hope this helps

I've just had a sachs SRE along with a new dual mass flywheel fitted. Its pedal feel is noticeably heavier, has a nice biting point, feels positive and it gets more power down. its rated to 380ft/lbs.
The Heliex is a good clutch and rated highly by some tuners, the thing that put me off is its only rated to approx 300 ft/lbs, but i've heard it will take alot more.
The stock 02m clutch is an excellent clutch which if your map is adjusted to remove boost spikes etc should last a long time.

I've had the Helix fitted with the SMF for about 6 years now give or take, and over 70k miles. Replaced it as the DMF was knocking when you blipped the throttle from idle.
Always felt good, not massively heavier than the stock pedal feel too which is nice :)

Does your single mass helix kit rattle at all or make noises.

You do get the rattle from the gearbox but it depends on how decent a nick your box is in - if it's needing a rebuild it'll be louder. Although dipping the clutch and bringing it back up can make it quieter.

You must be spending a furtune replacing all these clutch kits! How are you killing them so fast?

I havent a clue mate. **** clutches i suppose.

Anyway garage have looked at the centre of the clutch disc has been ripped out so a clutch that is rated to 400 ft/ibs and moderate race use has been destroyed by my car running 324 ft/ibs and never been raced. Something seriously wrong there. Looks like a helix for me and hoping to use the southbend SMF. Anyway of knowing if i can use the Southbend SMF or not with a helix clutch?

Cheers.

I'm interested in your opinion, how did they both feel, which lasted the longest and why do you rate the helix over the sachs.

Sachs feels and sounds exactly like a stock clutch but imo is good for remapped power! I ran one on my hybrid fabia and the standard dual mass flywheel gave up after 20k miles and this was only at 200bhp and 320lb/ft, the clutch was still fine however but the standard dmf lets this clutch down! Its crap

I then replaced it with the helix and smf! Unbelieavable bit of kit! Great bite, slightly stiffer pedal (which i like) and it could take anything you could throw at it! Chattered at low rpm and at idle but wasnt an issue for me!

The reason the helix is rated low (around 340lb/ft) is for warranty reasons, they air on the side of caution you see!!

My mate runs a helix and smf (paddle plate) on a pd130 running 284bhp and 400lb/ft and its perfect!!

I think it will fit a 240mm solid flywheel is a 240mm solid flywheel :)

Heard a few issues with american clutches

Darkside has supplied me with a Sachs SRE disc and a new CSC and they said it should solve the problem of clutch not disengaging as this is due to the Fermaic material which southbend use and causes it to stick. Should have new one by Tuesday so hopefully sorted soon.
