Hi all, just drove home about 10 miles not being silly and all of a sudden the engine light came on:( car seems to drive ok but when i got home i stopped the engine and restarted it to see if it would clear it? and it idled at just over 1000rpm for about a minute:blink: with light still on!
The thermostat needs changing and runs at about 60 Deg on the dash could this be the cause???? help please guys any ideas??

My feeling is the car is running rich. As it's using more fuel because the ecu thinks you can't get up to temp.

This was my thoughts! but its been like that for the last 2 weeks ive owned it, surley it would have picked that up sooner?? correct me if im wrong?? also been running it on 99 ron V-power fuel will that cause it?
Anyway this morning i lifted the bonnet and turned the engine off, i could hear what sounds like air leaking from DV area for about 20 secs! i have what lookes like a forge one! is this sound normal?? car seems to run fine!!!

The ecu takes time to pick these things up. Could quite easily take 2 weeks to pick that kind of fault up. I ran without my maf plugged in and that took around a week to show up. The fuel you use won't make a difference as I use the same and have done since I have owned my car. That noise you can here is coming from the water coolant bottle, mine does the same. I'm 100% sure that's not a boost leak you can here as there is no pressure when at idle, pressure also happens when the turbo comes into play.
So change your engine temp sensor or thermostat. Clear the fault and job done

No, its not coming from expansoin tank! round the back of the engine near the dv area, and can only hear it when u turn engine off for few seconds!

OK, quick update! a guy's just called round to top up my aircon and he had a fault code reader! so he pluged it in and it came up with P1296 cooling system malfunction! thermostat im deffo thinking!!!!

Sounds like the coolant temp sensor to me, I'd replace both items just to be sure, don't forget to order new seal with thermostat and the correct coolant

Whats the thing about right coolant? Mine is in for cam belt and water pump next week. Is that something i should be checking up on with the garage maybe??

yes you want g12 anti freeze as recommended by vag. i think the latest stuff is g12++ thats what i used from seat anyway

Cheers. Would that be anything to do with the coolant housing pinky coloured water as opposed to the much seen blue.
