Just coming home on a journey of about 15mile and could smell a very strong smell of petrol. Realised my petrol was dropping rapidly and my petrol light came on. So i managed to pull over and realised petrol was pissing out on drivers side rear arch. As i looked closely it was coming from a pipe which comes down in the rear arch which isnt conected to anything on the end which i can only think that this is an overflow pipe?
I could hear a loud hissing noise coming from the petrol filler cap so i opened it up and it let out alot of air and was very loud with a creaking noise coming from underneath the car. Once i let the air out of the filler cap the leak stopped.
Now ive dumped my car at my work and left it locked away as i was near by and dont want to risk driving it.

What could have caused this? Hope its not a major issue. If anyone can help then id appreciate it alot. Thanks

If you lift up the back seat mate there's a cover with 3 screws I think if you lift that out carefully will give access to the top of the tank. Seen people get leaks from there before maybe worth checking there?

The leak was deff coming out of the pipe mate. Seemed like the tank had got full of air so it was pushing it out of an overflow pipe. I thought it was strange the other day when i put 15quid petrol in and when i opened the filler cap to put the petrol in alot of air came out of it and inside the flap it seemed as though it was wet (petrol) on it. Same again today when i opened it to release the air. Very strange.

Weird sounds like it's pressurized? Not got a clue what could cause that? Faulty fuel pump maybe?

Very strange mate. Never come across it before. I will have to pawou on to my locql garage and hope theres nothing seriously wrong with it.

Can't see it being anything major mate there's only a few things it can be? Diagnostics would say if something was up with the fuel pump.

Keep me posted hope it's a quick and not exspensive fix

I will do pal. Cheers. Oh by the way i managed to get the paint for the chargepipe brackets and now painted them. Looks very close to the blue pipes i have if not the same. Looks very good. Ill get some pics up once ive painted my engine cover and battery cover in gloss black. Also going to repaint my heatshield.
was very tempted to get carbon fibre engine cover but not 100% sure yet.

Yeh mate took your advice and colour matched it at a paint shop. Looks alot better. Yeh still toying with the idea with the carbon cover. I will Eventually get one but will make do with spraying it for now. Let us know how the new tyres and alignment are mate.

Can't see it being that much its a bracket and some bolts. At a guess I'd say 25 quid at the most.

hopefully mate. Seen the armrest for £25 so not too bad. Just wish i new the part numbers for the armrest. Ill have to pop into audi and ask.

Ive got the exact same problem, petrol leaking from the pipe you mentioned, dropped car to garage this morning, await feedback on what it could be, did notice a petrol smell in car too.

What was wrong with yours?
