Morning all,
Not the most mechanically minded out there so was hoping somebody could help. Had a flat on the drivers side rear last night, got the car home took the flat off and while off I noticed some kind of line or pipe just dangling there. I can't figure out what the hell it is or what it's for but it looks like it's poked through the wheel arch lining from the boot space.

Got some pics:

Can anybody advise? I hope im not being an absolute idiot, cheers.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. Could you elaborate on that? Is that something to do with the fuel and is it a big deal that it's not attached to anything?

Probably not, you'd notice a stinky fuel smell following you around if it was leaking stuff out.
Could be for water drainage as well.

You could pull the plastic cover out and peek inside.

No problem, that's just a guess but it's common for cars to have a random pipe dangling for excess fuel if it's missed the filler neck for whatever reason, i'll have a look at mine and see if the same pipe is there. My old mx5 had one, there was a small hole in the base next to where the filler neck protrudes through, on the other side a plastic coupling and attached to that a small pipe dangling down to the ground, saves it sloshing back out around the fuel cap and running down the bodywork I suppose.

Yeah i might have to, got a free weekend this weekend so i'll get it jacked up again at some stage and have a look. Totally forgot to mention it to the lad at kwik fit this morning when i dropped it off should have got them to have a look.

Cheers Risto, would be good to know, that's the first time i've had a wheel off it so just thought it was strange. Could always ask the lads at kwik fit when i go pick it up later

Sweet! I'll give you a shout when I get 5 to check. No doubt i'll have mine in multiple pieces on the weekend. Just make sure they don't tell you you need a new fuel tank etc and it's a terrible mess and it's dangerous and they want £££ haha.

Yeah cool, to be fair mate mine needs to be taken to bits at some point but i may have already ripped it apart with my bare hands before then ha! Only had it 6 weeks and the to do list/cost list just seems to get longer and longer so it's doing my head in quite a bit. How you finding yours? Guess ours a pretty similar really

Haha what needs doing to it? and I know the feeling!.. Same here to be honest bro it's new territory for me but it's all a learning curve, and never let it defeat you! Mine really is a mixed bag, it's great but needs putting right. I've just ordered all the bits to keep me busy this weekend, coil-overs, lower arm bushes, shortened drop links and track rod ends as all of the current components on the car have seen their day, so I'm hoping it'll transform the uncomfortable knocky ride!

That sounds like a great place to start dude, i'm quite limited in terms of my ability but i'll be a attempting a few things myself i should think. But its cost £170 today for 2 new tyres, next is new timing belt/water pump, brakes are absolutely desperate to be changed so new discs and pads all round, suspension bushes are on their way out coilies (maybe).
I'd love a remap but that forces a new clutch just to be safe and all this may take much longer than the 2 years max im planning on keeping the car and the very limit of justification to the mrs, for some reason women don't approve of changing car parts when they have a brand new one all the time.

Trying things out yourself is by far the best way of learning, good on you for tackling things yourself! I'm on hand if you need a chuck with anything I'm not too far away haha. What tyres have you gone for? It's labour that's the killer, i'm lucky i'm able to use the workshop here for all my needs! However, at the end of the day it could be worse, the list could be twice as long haha, you'll get round to it all! I'm planning on keeping mine for a decent while, it'll be sweet when it all comes together. That is a good point though, i'm lucky I don't have one at the moment, valentines would be a disaster ha! Until a lady crosses my path that approves of spending money on parts then I'll most probably stay single.

I've just had a quick look at my motor, there is no pipe dangling like yours shown in the pictures, however where the large black pipe comes through the arch lining there is a hole that looks like it should have the same pipe as yours sat in it..

Just to reassure you, that is the pipe for the fuel over spill. If you look inside your fuel cap, you see the actual lockable fuel cap and a hole underneath, the pipe starts there.
