Hello everyone i have had my mk2 2.0 16v ibiza for 4 months now and have broken done 6 times LOL.

I have changed the following;
- New crank sensor
- New engine coil
- New spark plugs
- New battery
- Oil change + filter
- New key cut

Basically broke done the 5th time and had crank sensor done went to pick car up from garage and wouldnt start. Plugged computer in and it came up with error code to do with immobiliser issue i think it was either a dodgy key or a sensor ignition barrel problem not right signal. So he opened up my key and there was a crank in the transponder chip (ORIGINAL KEY BUTTONS DIDNT WORK, BUT BATTERY IN REMOTE WAS FINE) in the key, so i had another one cut and was told to user that one to see if the problem persisted. 7 weeks driving with the new key and no problems then in the last week the car stops starting first time (Takes a couple of goes). Monday night the car wouldnt start so AA man came and clipped his battery pack on the battery and the car booted up, so i changed the battery and bought a bigger one. Since buying the battery i still have the same problems the car starts on the first go but dies immediatley then it takes three more goes to get the engine on.

This makes me think about the immobiliser on the car, now i dont know much about them but if a after market alarm is fitted could this be a possible problem why all the time ive had the car it hasnt behaved consistently since ive had all the work done? If it helps the car has a Toad alarm sticker in the window so thats probably the make of the alarm.

What alarm system come standard with the 2.0 16v mk2 ibiza GTI?

Any one experienced any similar problems with immobiliser issues? starting issues related to alarm? After market alarm problems if not fitted right?

Basically any suggestion are welcome if anyone has any prior knowledge of this type of problem and how to fix it? (Possible to remove immobiliser?

Many Thanks

Few months on now but a am having very much the same issue .. Also replaced crank dizzy coil..
I wonder if there is a by pass.. My key also doesn't central lock nut battery is ok.. I've tried re tuning it with fail written all over it!!

I've had a similar issue where the chip came loose on the spare key. (if you take the key apart - the remote one) It's a black chip about this big [....]

We just made sure it slotted back into place and the car fired up first time. If you can take the key apart then try and have a look or ask a mechanic to if poss?
