Hi, just as title says. my rear door is rather stiff ,so i was looking at the lock mechanism and rotated the catch or latch mechanism and then it just clicked and locked into an open position, now the door wont close. any suggestions before a tea leaf comes calling.

no, don't think so, i did try messin with the child lock key slot but nothing happened. What i may have to do is find a star key and take off the locking bar on the car body, so the door will sit flush with rest of the body until i figure how to get the door latch /catch rotated back to the original position.

Try slotting a screwdriver into the lock mech where the striker bar would normally sit when the car door is closed. Then pull the outside door handle (as you do when opening the door) and push away from you with the screwdriver at the same time. That should release the latch.

I would expect the "closed" latch to get released when you pull either the inner or outer handle - I've used that "way" (ie trip it with a large screwdriver into the closed position) to ease up a sticky latch while spraying it first with a cleaner then with a lubricant. Remember it might need two pulls of the inside handle, first one to "unlock" it and second one to open it (that is if its now locked).

Thanks everyone,

Seems like 'Rum4mo' had the solution, but i've wasted a lot of time going for the hard answer before thorughly doing the obvious. Yep, all it needed was a good old yank on the inside door handle ,which i done before, without much gusto.
Spent the day stripping my door down trying to access the lock, which i couldn't get to in the end cos the window glass was in the way and is a 'arse 'to remove.
Came back and read everyones comment and went out and 'nailed the sucker'.

Thanks again.
