Hi guys i have searched the forum but still finding no solution, i have a superchiped lcr 225 recently i went on holiday and parked the car in the garage for a week, when i came back and took the leon out for a drive the temperature guage light beeped 3 times and continued flashing although the temp was fixed at 90. I put it down to low coolant, TPS was closed and i was told it had to be G12 so i used the car on a couple of short journeys on the sunday but now the light had stopped when i first started the car but the car started overheating round to almost 120 then the beep started so i pulled over and let it cool then limped home so to speak lol anyway the next day i used it to go to work (5min journey) but i noticed it seemed to be gettin up to 90 after a couple of mins then if i drove above 40 it would keep creeping round towards 120 yet as soon as i pulled up the fans would cool it down to 90 again although with it being upto temp as soon as i went above 40 it would creep up again afterwork i went to tps filled the coolant up with g12 and still had the same issue so i checked the fuses above the battery and the radiator 40a strip fuse was knackered so again the next day i replaced it with another from tps and still got the same issues so i booked it in the garage and took it in this morning... well they've got back to me saying its a suspected head gasket with no mention of the waterpump... they're willing to do the work but not guarentee it due to my superchip =/ i checked the oil cap and i've got no 'mayo' and it doesnt seem tobe smoking anymore then usual and from reading the forum over and over everyone seems to be pointing towards a waterpump... i'm not sure what to do next because i'm abit reluctant to pay for the head when the garage cant guarentee their work and havent even mentioned the pump i feel like its a half arsed diagnosis and they've just picked the most expensive diagnosis... so any advice on what to do next would be apprieciated

thanks guys and sorry for the essay ;-)

Hi you can check the circulation of the cooling system yourself by removing the return hose from the coolant bottle then starting the car up if coolant come out and gets faster as you rev the engine the water pump should be ok. It sounds like you have a problem with your fans if it is blowing the 40amp fues has it blown again since you replaced it?

WP from me too. wheres the HG diagnosis coming from? oil water mixed?
Again get a second opinion at a vag independent if possible

Thermostat stuck closed? I had this earlier in the year at ~80K, could just about keep temps down with interior fans on full, hot, at slow drivingspeeds. But on the motorway it would creep up quickly to the danger zone.
Ordered a replacement stat (cheap) and fitted the next day. On removal the old one would not open at all, even after several minutes in a kettle..
Good Luck

thanks for the quick replies!!!
I don't think the superchips an issue either the car usually runs fantastic!
Your waterpump suggestions are convincing me even more its not the head and like i said i havent noticed any symptoms... heres what the sheet said...(sorry my dad picked the car while i was at work so i can only go off the sheet)

check out overheating problem, ran engine to check operation of fan - all ok
found coolant to boil in header tank/pressurization cooling system
gas test for combustion gases in header tank

suspect possible faulty head gasket

thats it.. no real confirmation in there i dont think

Would get the water pump and thermostat done first and see how it goes

Yeah thats what i'm thinking mate... i checked that fuse btw and its okay

Right a little update.... i spoke to the owner of the garage today he said when they did the test for oil or emissions? in the water it turned green not blue and he said he blead it 3 times and air was still getting in the system. He's still suspecting head gasket but hes said its up to me what i want to do next.... so I've requested the waterpump to be changed for a metal impellar one and the thermostat changed as i still think a cracked waterpump with stripped impellars could be the issue. i also rang nunns mazda dealer in grimsby where it had its last major service on 58k with the previous owner last year about 10k ago and they say the only did the cambelt and tensioner kit not the waterpump... they made out it was unusual to change the cambelt and waterpump... i always thought the two went together to be on the safe side =S anyway its booked in tuesday morning for that so i'll keep you posted!!
