HI all i've got a 57 plate 170 pd Btcc seat leon, which is fitted with the optional Remus exhaust from new..the tail pipes are nice and shiny and fill the cut outs just fine...

i've had mine mapped to stage2 ( shark map ) and have had the DPF delete done ( cut out and welded back up with the weld side up )

now i want to keep the back box system and i believe that with mine been a diesel that it doesnt have a CAT so my question is how do i make my car sound a little bit more well you know throaty, a little bit more roar under acceration?

Im 40 years old, so i dont want boy racer CHAV ( although i recon my 15year old would love me to have a loud exhaust!! ) i just want it to sound more powerful ha ha..

Any advise would be much appreciated, or if anybody has uprated there diesel exhaust to get that bit more roar, what have you fitted???

I have watched some youtube videos and a straight through system is just to loud for me.....

cheers

I believe you can cut out the rear or middle silencer, and replace it with a straight through pipe, gives a little more growl without sounding like a gypo..

I didnt think mine had a middle box? If i cut out the back box wouldnt i have to have new rear tail pipes made to a straight piece of pipe that splits to go to either side of the bumper cut outs?

I'm not too sure of the exhaust layout on the PD 170, but if you don't have a middle box then I'm sure you must have a rear silencer, if so you can open it up and remove all of the insides, or chop it out completely and then weld pipes to either side.

You don't have a middle box or cat on a pd170, the dpf acts as the cat, I've got the same car and am thinking of just having 4" tips welded, check out benzy rr he's had a custom exhaust made up and it sounds great

I had my backbox chopped off when I converted my FR rear end to a Cupra R style one. From the inside it's more gutsy but it's not intrusive and from the outside apparently it's pretty meaty (never heard it from the outside myself). I think the DPF canister acts as an expansion chamber stopping it from being stupid loud.

So if i have my backbox cut open and have the insides taken out and then welded back up? In theory the sound should get more meaty sounding?

I dont really want to get rid of the backbox all together but if taking the guts out of the backbox gives some more roar to the exhaust i mite get it done, surely just a straight pipe from the DPF back would be to loud? Wouldnt it fail an MOT and be very much like a drone noise @ steady speeds?

I didn't gut the silencer I had it replaced with straight pipe. It's not intrusive, in fact it's barely any different inside with the seats up unless you boot it. Like I say I've not heard it from the outside, it may be a bit loud. Because I've still got my backbox and standard outlets I can easily put it back to standard if I get annoyed with it/want to sell. The pipework was only £160 for two 3.5inch outlets. Whereabouts are you?

I find the exhaust note on my tdi with a straight through is pretty good. Not too loud and quite when driving normally

Im in Burnley, northwest...i have thought about replacing the backbox but i thought i mite get a bit more roar with the backbox insides gutted, i've got kids so im a little concerned over a straight through roar would piss the wife and kids off over a car journey...

i've tryed looking for benzys rr and its not coming up?

Ahh Burnleys too bigger trek for me! I wouldn't say it's a piss the wife and kids off loud, though then again I've not got kids and the missus is quite forgiving :) though she would say of it was too loud!

Im going to try and find this benzys build thread and see how his sounds, i just think a straight through would be to noisy for me with having the kids in the car...

there must be summut between straight through and what i've got..

Right im going to speak the guy that does all my tuning work this week, I need to go back there as my shark stage 2 maps playing up again!!!!!

Im going to see what he says about

A. cutting out the backbox and having a straight through pipe ( but think it would just be to noisy for me )
B. cutting open the backbox and removing the insides.
C. some other option he mite have done before..
