Collected the car today in Germany and drove it home (570km).
Man, what a car! Absolutely enjoyed the ride home. Just need to do some paperwork and technical inspection to put it on Belgian numberplates and we're good to go, should only take a couple of days.

Is the registration a sort of temporary one due to you 'exporting' the car out of Germany? It looks different to regular ones, particularly the dated area on the red background - it doesn't even have a 'D' marker on it.

Yes, these were temporary license plates. We had to go to an office (KFZ-Zulassungstelle) where we applied for export plates. They registered the plates and the insurance in my name, and then I could drive it for a month. That gave me enough time to arrange the necessary paperwork and have the car inspected in Belgium. After that, my insurance company could register the car and put Belgian plates on it. That only took four business days.
