The leon cupra can suffer all the similar 'common faults' as the other VAG cars of this era. (A3, MK4 GOLF, BORA, FABIA) so there is not one thing to look out for.

The best thing to check is that there is a comprehensive history of any service/replacement parts. Im not talking stamps in the book, but good old recipts.
Dont worry about the log book at all, but you should see that the oil + filters have been changed within decent intervals and that there are recipts for other bits that may have been replaced.

A car that is well looked after may have no faults for 10 years+, however a poorly maintained one may cause issues within 6 years of being new.

Many people on here moan and groan about their seat and its faults, but many people also buy one and never have any issues. Its all down to how its been looked after, and you want proof that it has before buying.

Oh, and welcome!
This site is a very handy place to look for ideas on modding or fixing things. Also is you need any advice or have any worries.

One thing you will notice is that everyone is passionate about their car, so everyone is happy to help and share.

Just be cautious, wouldnt say stay clear as you may like it.

Take it for a drive, see how it feels, listen for any knocking noises etc... check it does not hunt for power or hesitate. Then have a good look in the engine bay for any fresh oil leaks/splatters.

Dont throw away the chance of a good car just because it does not have history, however it is a risk that you can run into issues pretty soon after as you have no idea how it has been maintained.

I used to own a mk4 golf TDI with 90K miles and no service history. It turned out to be clocked from around 120K and was a complete dog. Had so many issues within weeks of buying it.
But my leon TDI had 140K on the clocks and full history, not really had any issues with the car other than ones I have created by modding.

Also, with the one you are looking at being a cupra, it may have been abused in its driving style over the years, ask the owner to drive it for a bit, and see how they do it. (worked for me on several occasions, see if it is natural, and how they handle going faster in it. Walked away from many a car when the owner is unused to driving 'normally' yet bought some when the driver can handle it well on the motorway) One guy suprised me so much, I had to ask him if he had done the advanced police driving course. To which he explained he had, and how did I know.
