HID Conversion Kit

Hi all,

I'm looking to get an HID Conversion Kit. But I'm unsure whether to go for H1 or H7 with either 6000K or 8000K bulbs. Also I've been watching installation guides on YouTube, but I still cannot work out where to fix the Ballast Boxes. Any advise on this would be brilliant.

Yes fitting myself. My headlights are electrically adjusted, and I don't have a washer system.

i dont get the washer system its a joke all it dose it wet the head lights thats no help what so ever there is no need in this can any1 explane to me y they put it on cars?

Because dirt and flecks of dust can distort the beam pattern of the high intensity discharge lamp therefore blinding other drivers. Yes they're not the most affective but coupled with the self-levellers they do keep the beam pattern in check to stop blinding on coming traffic.

i highly doubt dust will distord a beam of light or even dead bugs dust would just make the beam look dull and dead bugs on ur healight isnt really going to deflect a beam of light that is pointing at the floor into on coming traffic its a joke all u should need is self levelers

I have found a set on eBay for 39.99. Thinking about getting them, they also have the H7R ones I'll need.

All well and good fitting but no good for mot test if garage see's the after market hid fitted with no headlight wash or self level it's a instant fail . Check vosa web site for further info .

Are you sure? According to manufacture it doesn't affect the MOT.

Condition, operation including HID and LED headlamps for cleaning, self levelling and security. Headlamp aim. Main beam warning light.

from VOSA web site no cleaning or self leveling = MOT failure

Yea I see that. I've just read the changes. Obviously I won't be installing them now. Thanks for the advise before I made a costly mistake.

a bit more info you may pass this year but not next

The new testable components* are subject to a 'bedding in' period during which any defects found in these components will be advisory only.

depends how long the bedding in period is and of course the tester may say it still fails because you have retro fitted only part of the system

I had (until last weekend) a set of HID's in my Clio Campus Sport, which I fitted myself. I have to admit, although they put down some serious light onto the road surface, no matter what the weather... they don't have the washers or projectors/self levellers, and thus failed on this year's MOT.

I'm considering fitting the kit to my leon, but I'm not sure how long it'd take me, and whether they'd blind the chuff out of other road users when they're in :|

No matter what is said/law chamges there are, the market for what will inevitably be 'show use HIDs' will continue.

Motor offence to drive with fogs on....
Motor offence to have any alternative coloured light source on vehicle (blue/green neons etc)....
Emissions fail on de-cat pipes....
Technically, even if you remove rear seats, the mot could fail if the seatbelts remain...

Even after all of the above, some still decide to against the grain.

If anyone must buy aftermarket HIDs, at least have courtesy to buy H7Rs.

Never mind it being an offence to drive with fogs on, but it's SO annoying. My 2 pet hates on the roads are people on their mobiles, and people with their fog lights on...they look pants anyway!

I would install them anyway, alot of garages and police arent up to scratch on this, generally you wont blind people anymore then any other person, just make sure you align them properly afterwards

I'm guessing once I have installed them, I can adjust them how using the in car adjustment knob??

Probably not enough. If you do fit them, go and get them aligned at a garage. Normally a fiver at most for both fronts.

Fogs are annoying if they are full on bright fog bulbs. LEDs arent too bad. Again, of ppl really need to do it, lets not be too bright plz...
