May i offer an alternative, this is what i have and is probabily the best thing ive bought for the car, so far.

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/h7-new-canbus-terminator-hid-kit-slim-35w-dipped-beam-1/

Please do!

That seems a better buy, thanks for that!

Edit - saw this on the description though "This product is sold for 'off road' and 'show' purposes only." Do they all say that? Is that so it doesn't fail it's MOT? Even though it will?

Also am I right to believe that it isn't wise getting them for beams? As they take a while to warm up and it doesn't do them any good to turn on and off so often? So I'd only need the dipped beams (as linked above)?

They are in my dipped beams which are ok. i fully agree about not having them in the high beam due to the time taken to warm up!

HID's are a touchy subject when it comes to MOT's some pass some fail. with new reg's coming in you need to have a way to remotley clean the lense to stop dazling oncoming traffic etc. Load of rubbish tbh.

I say the best thing to do it. put them in for 364 days of the year, then when it comes to MOT time stick some normal bulbs back in. For the 15min job it would take it would save a lot of hassel.

Ive had these on for 3 months and they are great, won't look back at normal bulbs now. I also recommend Osram nightbreaker plus for your high beam as they are as close to awesome as i think you can get.

Any other questions give me a shout.

Brilliant, thanks for that info.

I'll do some more reading on fitting etc and see where I end up!

Could be that the 62 quid ones are not certified, whereas the ones you found are. That make a difference in the road-legal status?

None of them are legal or certified..

Is it realistic that you will get pulled over for it though? I suppose it's luck of the draw isn't it.

If they're both in the same boat i'd be leaning towards the £60 ones, however wonder why there's so much difference in price?

Unless you get OEM bi-xenon (with projector lenses) head light units from SEAT or such, HIDs will never be road-legal, especially when they are installed in regular reflectors rather than projector lenses.

I don't really know if many people get pulled over, but you could also void your insurance and any warranty your car may have. I know, you'll probably get away with it but something to bear in mind.

I personally hate HID's, see them coming up in your rear-view mirror and its most likely a boy racer!

I used to have HIDs in the original reflectors and I never realized but it actually screwed people's vision, both ones in front of you and ones coming from the other side, which is why I tried retrofitting projector lenses and when that didn't turn out great, I went ahead and bought aftermarket head light units with lenses and then used my HID ballasts. I've been thinking about buying original ballasts, though, like the ones installed in the OEM bi-xenon head light units, but I don't know how I would go about doing that. I know the ballasts will cost a lot, but at the same time they won't require ballasts sitting under your hood (and possibly ruining warranty and resulting in getting pulled over, and the latter happened to me a few weeks ago) and will not need time to warm up, which would be a plus.

I have 5000Ks installed at the moment but I am thinking of going for 4300K next as I feel 5000K is still a bit bluish, or maybe I am just paranoid. lol

I'd inform the insurers of the change, from what i've read they will put them down as a headlamp update and not charge you any extra. They could ask me about details on making sure they're legal which could lead to trouble...suppose i'd have to just see what they said.

The more expensive ones are Tüv certified and all, but the issue still remains that they're illegal because there are no headlight washers and, as mentioned, are still in the original halogen reflectors.
The only way to go is the full projector kit.

DOn't you end up paying a fortune for full projector kits?

Got any suggestions?

Do you get points with the fine for getting pulled over? Anything extra for a repeat offense? Cause i could pay the £30 fine numerous times and still not pay as much as the full kit.

I know that's not a sensible solution and not one I would promote.

Sadly if you were stopped, they would have every right to demand you not drive your car any further at night. Due to them not being road legal.
Which is a bit more of a pain i nthe ass than just paying 30 quid.

Aside from that...that 30 quid wouldn't just remain 30 quid after the 2nd and 3rd time. That would eventually turn into a court appearance.

Realistically how much are we talking for a full projector kit? (new & used)

Being somebody who likes to stay on the right side of the law, I think getting a full road legal setup is going to be beneficial. Even if it does set me back a few hundred £££. Might have to wait longer than I originally thought before I do this conversion however.

I just read about someone fitting OEM projector lens head lights from eBay for about 400. You can search on eBay and other similar sites, hopefully you could come up with something.

Remember you'd need to get the FULL oem kit. So the headlight units, headlights washers (and your bumper has to support these), balasts, etc etc.
Then the VCDS changes.

there's a reason it's an expensive option at the dealer's.
It's not just a different piece of plastic :)

So you can't have these without the headlight washer, period? Why does that even matter?

I might one day be getting the BTCC kit so I could make sure I get them with that. Then take it from there. Could be waiting a little (lot) longer than I imagined however...

No wonder people go down the illegal route...ha.
