So you can't have these without the headlight washer, period? Why does that even matter?

I might one day be getting the BTCC kit so I could make sure I get them with that. Then take it from there. Could be waiting a little (lot) longer than I imagined however...

No wonder people go down the illegal route...ha.

Now that I don't know. Must be something to do with them being projected that they are more sensitive to light refraction due to grime on the lens?

Because they're so much brighter, any refraction could mean dazzling other drivers.

So yeah...there are three options:
A) Get an illegal setup and face the possible consequences (which may never arise)
B) Get the full kit and pay up big time (400ish for the lights off ebay, and whatver it is for the bumper(modifications) + headlight washers)
C) Get some brighter halogen bulbs and be satisfied with that.

Please note that MOT regulations say 'Washers and self levelling must be functional IF FITTED

If they're not fitted, they're not illegal. However, you still have to have the projector light units, and OEM ballasts/bulbs for them to be near road legal.

I'd go for Option C if i were you, save the chance of being pulled and wont dazzle other drivers. :)

There are some pretty good halogen bulbs out there these days. I do have OE HIDs on mine and to be absolutely honest they are little better than my OSRAMS in my MR2.

Best halogen bulbs from my experience are Osram Nightbreaker Plus. I have tried MTECs (or XTECs, don't remember the name) as well as Philips Xtreme (not Vision, but the latest one, which is supposedly better) and I must say Osram beats them all in all categories, high beam, low beam, and fog lights.

Except for that they last about 14 seconds...
I had to replace one within 6 months, and the other not long after

I have hid's and i took them to my local garage to get aligned and he said they would pass mot fine and hes failed my mots in the past for led side lights and things so should be all ok, i have 4300k h7's by the way

Today liverpool seat said they couldn't align my HIDs because they produce no beam pattern  how can they produce NO beam pattern?

Anyway, many many police have seen them and I've been right next to police at night and they couldn't care less. I have 6000k h7r bulbs in. Have a spare set though if I'm ever pulled.

In reflector lenses there is a massive amount of skatter so the pattern is very difficult to find.

In MK the police are pulling over cars at local meets and giving people a chance to change them, if there pulled over again its a £60 and 3 points.

as a mechanic i know a couple of things about the HID kits, they are illegal. if you dont have them standard and are worried about the police pulling you up DON'T bother. MOT rules and regulations state for fitted hid kits projector lenses and headlamp washers MUST be fitted. If you really want them to be legal its DIY job of stripping the headlamp and replacing with a projector unit or buying projector headlamps and fitting headlamp washers(you can just link the pipes for the window washers to the headlamp ones). i have alot of friends with HIDs and standard reflectors and none of them have been pulled over for it so im considering doing it myself because i just dont care for authority :D PS. alot of police are clueless when it comes to rules and regulations unless they are traffic police... if you see them take the first turn you can and park for 5 ;) :D the joys of illegal mods :p

hears a link to VOSA regulations

phoenixautobulbs.co.uk/tp/hid-kits-new-legislation-2012

its not VOSA's own but its all there ... washers are for certain kits :)
In my last work we were told to fail them if they had no washers but they done alot of things wrong anyway :)
