Hey all,

I've looked into a few places in regards to wrapping various exterior trim, but can only seem to find advice on full wraps.

Plenty of you have wrapped your front lower lips (fnarrrr) as well as the piece of bodywork behind the front plate and some have done the chrome grill surround too.

So my questions are

1) Where did you buy your wrap (links helpful!)?

2) How did you go about applying it and where?

3) How long have you had it for and what's it looking like now?

Pictures welcome!

Bought my wrap from carwrapdirect in Dublin. They have a website and deliver. I wrapped the section behind my plate in gloss black. It was the first time I've ever used a wrap so what O did was make a paper template of the shape I needed, stuck it to the wrap and cut it out then just stuck it on. It's been about 2 weeks now and it's still perfect. I tried wrapping the lower bumper bar but it was too difficult to get right. Might leave that to a professional.

Getting it done by a pro shouldn't cost too much.
The way described above works. Out it's hard to not get any creases without using a hairdryer and stretching the vinyl.
The more you heat the glossier it tends to look.

I'll have a look into that company and see what their prices are like, I contacted a pro wrapper near me and they wanted 160 smackaroos to do the front lip, behind the registration and the chrome grill surround. Seems an awful lot to charge or am I just being a tightarse? :O

That's a hell of a lot. I know the guy round me would only charge around 40 -50 quid. Where are you?

Ah I thought it was too much! I'm in Worcestershire so somewhere west Midlandsy would be ideal!

Oh I'm in south Yorkshire. Vinyl isn't expensive to buy for them small areas. Get some off ebay and try have a go first. May save you a lot of money.

As Andy said, you may as well give it a go. Worst case scenario is it doesn't look good and you peel it off and you've lost a fiver for a roll of wrap.

I'm in the process of purchasing a second hand mk3 so thinking of having a go myself. Think I may have some leftover black vinyl from the mk2 so if have enough will have a crack at it.

Sounds good, let us know how you get on!

Guess I'll just give it a crack myself then, to quote top gear; how hard can it be..? ;O

Haha. Just don't use JC's standard hammer as a tool lol. The bit behind the plate should be simple. The lip is a bugger as I did it on my mk2 and was never perfect.

That's given me some confidence to do the same, it is actually dead cheap.

Does anyone know where you can buy a black grille surround? I reckon the chrome would look better in black, but apparently spray would chip off with stones and it would be just as expensive to wrap it black as to buy it black. I've looked on ebay but I dont really know what to search haha

Regarding the chrome grill.. again they're not hard to wrap... not sure on the mk3 if it's comes off. It does on the mk2 as I wrapped mine and definitely makes it easier.

Ah ok, I'll have a look and see whether there is any way of getting it off then. I think you're right though, must make it a lot easier having it actually off the car.

The mark II leon's grille was easily removed for wrapping, but the mark III is a bumper off job unfortunately. It's screwed on from the back. It's quite easy to wrap on the car and looks much better...

I haven't done it yet but my plan for the grill surround was to mask it off and plastidip it. I feel I would get a much better finish than a wrap if it was done on the car and there no way im taking off my front bumper just to wrap it.

I'm picking my car up tomorrow... been quoted £40 to wrap the grill surround, the bit behind the plate and the bottom lip of bumper. So think I'll pay rather than mess it up myself.

This may help with wrapping the lip. I haven't actually tried wrapping myself, but saw this the other day. Could be of use! youtube.com/watch?v=6fl1WUNofPs
