I want to improve the ride of my Leon FR, but am not entirely sure how to go about it.

I'd like it to be more comfortable, while still being able to provide fun driving.

Any advice? What should I expect to pay?

you could try eibach lowering springs or a coilover kit. lowering springs are about 200 for kit plus fitting, then kw coilover kits are about 700.

If you search you will find you'll need Koni FSD shocks, these will improve ride comfort. There are plently of threads around on this. I'm thinking of going this route in the new year, possibly with some lowering springs (although this will be for aesthetics) not to improve ride comfort.

My Koni FSD's & Eibach springs have improved the ride no end!
I found the factory SEAT Sport suspension a bit too harsh for my liking, so fitted the above & haven't been disappointed.
It gives a plush ride at slower speeds but firms up at speed, so it's nice & compliant.

Got any pics. I am thinking of that exact same combo, but have been concerned about some stories of the rear end not lowering as much as the front.

This is when they were first fitted.
They have settled a little more since then, but have no recent pics.

I have the same Koni FSD/Eibach Pro setup as Jon and it is a great improvement over the standard suspension; but I would say that if you want your car to look like it's lowered, then you may not be happy, as the lowering is subtle, only around 25mm. This does have the advantage of not scraping the underside on every speed bump though!

Thanks I don't want to go too low just a subtle touch. As long as its all balanced, .i.e. even lowering all round I'll be happy. I just don't want to drive round drag car style.

Thanks Jon, would you say that the ride height is now nicely even between front and back, and how long did it take to fully settle.

The back did sit a little higher, but after about 500 miles it settled & evened out. I think it helps if you carry passengers in the back & have heavy loads in the boot on a constant basis.
TBH, I don't think it's dropped the 25mm it's supposed to - probably only 20mm.

jontdi - how much would i be spending to get the same set up as you?

Also would it class as a modification for insurance purposes?

Eibach springs are around £140 & the Koni FSD's are around £400, but I bought the FSD's from a member on here for a good price.;)
To get them fitted will cost around £200.

Anything other than factory spec would be classed as a modification.

I have a quote from JKM for

FSDs are £353.73 plus VAT
EIbach Springs are £114.23 plus VAT

Total cost - £538.15

Fitting is £150.00 plus VAT - £172.50 inc VAT

£710.65 all in.

That seems OK; it cost me about £750 nearly 2 years ago from BigBoysToys, but you are saving on the VAT; one of the benefits of the credit crunch!

Hows your ride height at the rear? Similar to Jon TDis, just trying to canvas as muck opinion as possible before I buy.

Btw the prices for both the springs and the shocks are going up about 17% shortly due to the poor pound value at the moment.

Yes, it is fairly even, just slightly higher at the rear as most cars are to compensate for passengers and or luggage.

I have no experience of any other setups, but I've been more than happy with the FSD/Eibach combo; the extremely harsh ride of the factory setup, for me, spoiled the car for day to day driving, while the progressive nature of both the springs and shocks with the FSD/Eibach's gives you the best of both worlds, comfortable for general driving and firming up the more you push it.

One word. Never buy only springs for your car, when trying to get better handling and etc.. Always seek whole setup, which means shocks+springs. Whole setup will match perfectly together to gain good results.

RIGHT:rolleyes:??????
