How do I reset trip computer?

We're thinking of trading in our Swift for a Ibiza 1.2TSi (105hp)

We took one car for a test drive but were disappointed with the mpg displayed(probably been used for lots of short trips by the staff)

The salesman said the trip computer couldn't be reset!

I know this is nonsense but couldn't for the life of me find how to do it.

Can someone tell me please?

Press and hold the small button on the underside of the RHS stalk for about 2 seconds. This will reset mpg, distance travelled, time on journey etc.

You really need to read the manual since it is a little complicated (there are two trip computers in one!).

Salesmen continue to amaze me.

The mpg details on test drives will always be bad, people get in, thrash it for 15 minutes. Then park. Next person gets in. Thrashes it for 15 minutes.... Again and again. I can't remember the time exactly, but the mpg on the 1st screen works on every trip which basically means once the car has been turned off for a few hours.

The second screen is the overall average since it was last reset which can be done as NetworkMan explained. You can flick between the screens by pressing the button at the bottom of the stalk.

Ah yes, had the same problem myself. Not the easiest of things to get your head around. Just about getting there after a month.

Also with the nav, the trip in that requires 5 seconds holding down the same button.

you could always ask what us 1.2 tsi owners get!!

high 30's to low 40's round town
low 40's to mid 40's mixed
and high 40's to low 50's out of town

but on a motorway doing 70 you will get around 50

they need a 6th gear!!

I honestly can't believe they haven't. EVERY time I get on the motorway I try to put it in 6th. Surely the testers would of said something!

yup I know what you mean

but its a town car not a mile muncher!

but on the other hand its a modern car it should come with 6th atleast

Its the stalk on the right hand side of the steering wheel, the one to activate wipers. There should be a reset button at the bottom (underside) of it

That's the same as I am getting from my 1.6tdi.

I wonder....................I bought the right car but did I buy the right engine?

I get about the same. Overall, that is all the miles I've ever done divided by all the petrol ever bought, I get 45.

I'm not sure a 6th gear would make much difference since at about 25mph/1000 rpm 5th is pretty high anyway. It's the wind resistance wot does it; gets much greater as you go faster!

Out of town going no more that about 50 mph I've seen 55 mpg but that's not common.
