Get some winter tyres, seriously, its night and day the difference they make.

The only time my cars got stuck this year was when the snow was above the bottom of the bumper, a few spades of snow cleared so it wasn't such a snow hill to climb up (bare in mind this was also on a slight incline) and off it went again.
It's been up hills 4x4s have wimped out of or had trouble on, round corners at speeds that shouldn't be possible and has stopped quick enough to avoid George michaeling idiots.

And its still fun using the handbrake for more graceful cornering when the occasion arises
)

Have a look on the maxsport website, and look for the nearest dealer.

They make rally and autograss tyres, about £45 each, ive had my old autograss wheels from my old nova on my corsa c, stupid amounts of grip.

Mine are the same, 195/65/15. If you've got the standard sized brakes they fit over just fine.

Note though that the rolling diameter of that size is about 4-5% larger than the stock 17" alloys so your speedo will be showing much closer to your real speed than usual.

Yeah I saw your other post about speed difference. My box has standard wheels on. Another concern is telling the insurance. I'm gonna call admiral shortly. Can imagine how crap a white boc will look wi these wheels on but I dint care.

my cupra was amazing in snow, didnt get stuck at all. took my feet off the pedals in drive and it climbed hills fine just dont be to right foot happy and u'll be fine. traction control is also very helpful!

After getting beached on a speed hump on a hill a few weeks ago during the last flurry I resigned my car with standard sport wheels and tyres to being poo in this weather, but today the old girl was fantastic! Same road and similar conditions it drove like a dream till I got stuck behind some candy floss head in a focus driving at 0.1 miles per decade up a hill spoiling any momentum I had but the ESP and first gear and off the throttle did the trick without even a glitch.

She's a multi faceted little car my one, just gotta be a femail ;-) I love it!

i think tht the boca is amazing in the snow, here in germany weve had alot and i have had no dramas at all....yet

Well that the wife's Zafira sorted with winter tyres, (total cost £175) Gone from the 18s to 15s ha ha
Now to sort the Boc....

By the time i sort that out it will be spring.......

Mk5...any good in the snow??

Afternoon folks,

I'm planning on upgrading to a mk5 fr/cupra in the next couple months. I work out in the country and was wondering how they cope in the snow? The snow will probably be all past with by the time I go to buy one however my decision to buy one may be affected if they dont perform well.

Kirsty :)

I got stuck once in the snow (which was pretty deep to be honest). On other occasions I managed just fine - I basically just put the car into 'D' mode and let it do most of the work itself (I didn't touch the accelerator when moving off) - I got a good hill climb on an extremely icy section using this method!

You could also invest in a set of wheels with winter tyres on them so when the season does roll round you know you wont have any issues at all. Coming from that far north I would believe you get a fair amount of snow so would defo recomment them winder tyres too. Otherwise, yes, the car can cope with the snow providing you're not trying to rally through it.

If you have good winter tyres, then mk5 is excellent in snow. We have about 30-50cm of snow here in Estonia and my Ibiza drives like a 4x4.
Ibiza is far better than Mazda3 or Smart Roadster in winter conditions.

Hey Kirsty, fit like?
Av had a boc all through the snow here in Fife and its not too bad. Need a gentle right foot!
A set of steel wheels wi snow tyres on would be the ideal choice tho if u can do it cheap enough. Loads of other older model VW cars have the same stud arrangement. Thats my plan for next year anyway. :D

Sorry for the lack of reply...I have winter tyres on my current wee beezer and it is amazing in the snow! I think i'm going to go for a mk5 fr around april/may...and when it comes to winter again buy some more winter wheels!! hopefully that, and my amazing snow driving skills will be okay!!
