just had my hicon GT's fitted today and i had the backs lowered as far as they would go down and the front i had a little tinker with. here are some picture of before i lowered it and after but would like to know how low you have your front and rear setup on these coilover. i took it for a spin and on hard cornering the wheels rub on the wheel arch screws that hold the plastic lineing on. i then raised it abit higher on the front about 3 threads higher and i still get a scrape on heavy cornering. also my sump is scaring me to how low it is to the floor will this cause me a problem. any help people would be great and to how low you have yours where its safe to drive and not scrape.

Looking niiiiice! If you're worried about the wheel rub on full lock, have a look at getting the arches rolled, i think it's only about £50 for the the front or rears

its not full lock realy its just under heavy cornering, the front wheels are scraping on the crews that stick out to hold the arch lineing on m8, the backs fine i think just front as far as i know, just wanted to know how low others on here have theres without it catching. dont know if it helps but its a FR tdi.

Mine is set up to a similar height and my front also catches on the screws! Somebody has told me to remove the screws and cut away the plastic and then it will be fine! I havent got round to doing this yet tho.

As you said its not full lock they catch is just heavy cornering

hmmmm if i remove the screws and cut away at the plastic with the plastic lineing stay in place and not fall down or anything? might do it tomorow if so. also is your sump really low? have you had any problems with that mate?

I havent Had a any problems with the sump catching but mines got an engine cover at the bottom anyway but thats never caught, i have caught the splitter on the other hand but that was on a farm lane.

Alright m8 i've got weitec hicon gt one's on mine. FR tdi and you will catch your sump "cover" a lot by scraping it but not the sump. Well that's what I find any way. You can't usually go over the speed bumps wiv a wheel either side, you'll need to go over them by slowing down and letting your wheels go over. Unless the speed bumps round my area are just really high! Mine is lowered all the way at the back with 20mm spacers and probs about half way at the front.

iv lowered mine low never had it rubbin not even on the rear with the cups out with 20mm spacers on and 3 people in the back..But iv got 16s on mine.

as for how close the sump is mine got a undertray which is close to the floor hit a few things with it never hit a speed bump theo. The things iv hit are beer cans sticks even a dead cat which was already dead lucky

here is a pic of how low it is its lookin from the back

Front needs to come up as that just looks daft as it is its not level, about 15mm should do it.

You'll catch your sump as well like that and probably get uneven tyre wear.

smashed sump = £150 bill at least.

I disagree, I think a nose down stance looks good :p Uneven tyre wear will be an issue however high/low you go unless you get your wheel alignment checked after fitting.

The sump will be pretty low though, especially on a TDi

You are right, to a certain degree.
The front of a car should be slightly lower than the back as that is the rack angle and affects turn in and understeer. However when lowering the car you are effectively lowering the cars center of gravity and the rack angle may need to be reduced slightly to compensate, unless you are planning to work out the steering geometry.

hi guys had a run round on back roads today with new coilovers and i can say there alot smoother, meaning not as crashy when going over your average bumps in the road, but speed humps you have to take at a really slow speed. when i was out i was getting scraping on hard cornering still so i went home and jacked the car up.

when i had it up i noticed it wasnt the screws that hold the arch lineing up, that my wheels was scraping on, but just a certain part of the lineing a bit further over. while the car was up i raised the car up higher at the front by another 3 threads. and i also cut away the plastic on the arch lineing to prevent the scrubbing.

while i had the wheels off i took a look at the coilovers and noticed there was a bolt hole, that looked like it shud have had a bolt in it! is this normal?

i took the car back out for a good spin and the handleing wasnt compromised and there was no scraping from the arch lineing any more :D

i must say overall i am very impressed with the weitec's and the car grips the road like a dream now. its like its on rails compared to before!!

do what iv done mate, cut it off and take it out, if its still catching like mine was, raise it a few threads. i just used a stanley knife to cut it out, went through it like butter :D

AndrewJB i looked at your readers ride and your back seems to sit alot lower than my back :( how you get back lower did you alter the rear suspension? or havent you got same suspension?
