how many litres of oil for an oil change?!

i need to change my oil on my leon 1.6 2004, i have done at the dealers before but decided to save the money and do it myself, the question is how many litres of oil do i need to put in? 4 litres or more or less?! and also which oil, i have heard 5w 30w should be oke.

Not sure on the 1.6, my 1.8T takes about 4.5l, as guess I would say a 1.6 would take less but only getting a 4L bottle would be cutting it fine IMO. Check the handbook the oil capacity should be in there somewhere. Either way get a 4L bottle and a 1L bottle, keep the 1L in the car for roadside topups etc, least then you know it will be the same kind of oil. 5W30 will be fine, make sure you get good quality stuff and not supermarket crap.

The manual should have fluid capacities in it somewhere, I dont have a manual to hand atm but if you get a 5l that should be more than enough and as said above you will then have spare for top ups
