A while ago my gearbox broke finally got the verdict back from the mechanic. A gear selector has broke inside the box causing loads of damage and basically its f***ed and its gonna cost £850 to fix. Not only that he has not iced that the clutch is on is way out and so is the dmf and thats gonna be about another £500 what a joke. I think I mite get the box done and sell the car.

£500 for a clutch, i know its different but just changed the clutch on my dads octavia tdi he got the complete clutch with dmf for £190 and did it ourselves. £300 labour seems alot to me.

Surely if he has to take the gearbox off/apart then the clutch will have to come off anyway? So just stick the new one on instead of the old when putting it all back together.

it sounds like they are trying to sell you the labour twice there mate. As Mrcayote said, they should charge the labour for the box alone, as the clutch will be done at the same time.

Sounds like hes charging you once for pulling the gearbox out
then charging you the full labour for fitting a clutch.

Either that or the clutch kit is very expensive from the stealer. When we did corsa clutches at vauxhall, i remember one costing 900 quid!!!! -Yes i got the 'hairdryer' treatment off the customer
