How to identify 170bhp version of the Exeo?

I've had a hunt around and can't find any topics on this issue but might be using the wrong search terms - I'm wondering if there's any easy way to identify an Exeo which has the 170bhp engine? I know previously they used to colour in the TDI on the back to show which power engine they had (which I appreciate wasn't consistent) but that seems to have stopped now.

I know the most obvious way is to ask the garage but I find they're not always correct so I don't want to have a lengthy drive for the wrong engine, if there was a visual indicator I could check it in the pictures first.

Thanks,
John

The Exeo has no letters on the back other than EXEO. The TDI is on the front wing and the 170 has all red TDI. Additionally, it has a chromed twin exhaust. I suspect the idea was to make the differences subtle, as with other VAG cars.

Get the reg and use something like this: http://www.freecarcheck.org

There are many online sites and also a good iphone app called MyCarCheck.

Thanks for the prompt replies, sounds like it should be more straight forward than I was expecting.

Don't think the exhaust is different as standard between the different engines. Chrome trim is an extra on all models.

Many car parts or tyres websites will let you type in a number plate and return the model description for you.

I was going to say I'd be the one going past as I have a PD 170 in what I thought was a lighter car but Parkers list both the Exeo ST and the Octavia VRS as the identical weight which doesn't seem right as I'd have thought there would be some variance. Then again the Octavia hatch is 1500kg so maybe it's a heavier car than I realised, I was concerned reading the poor fuel figures people seem to get out of the CR170 engine in the Exeo compared to the Leon with the same engine which people posted was due to the weight but then that's not the case with the Octavia and Exeo.

I think the posts above are correct about the exhaust trim as some of the cars advertised as 170's don't seem to have it although I've noticed an Exeo with the exhausts either side but the standard headlights at the front (rather than newer LED ones) so I assume this is part of some optional extra? So much to get my head around...I know the ins and outs of the quirks with the Octavias so it's a bit frustrating knowing so little about the Exeos. At least I've read up on the two sat navs and can spot the Pioneer although there seems to be a lot of 11/12 plate cars with the original - I thought they were all going to have the Pioneer eventually.

The Pioneer sat-nav was a stop-gap when they ran out of RSNEs. The separate twin exhaust is the 2.0l petrol turbo (GTI engine). I thought 45mpg was pretty good. Then again, I used to drive 4X4s :)

I think for those of you looking for exhaust trims, try the skoda garage. I've read somewhere Yeti ones fit.

The TDI is all red on 170, as per previous post.
TD is red and I is silver on 143.

According to Seat configurator for new cars, (and I know this isn't always the same in the showroom) if you want a 170 "You'll be needing the sport sir".

This is the one I was looking at with the separate exhausts:

Is the TDI listing an error?

I stand corrected. That's got to be a £3k option with paint an labour. Eek!

Shame it's the 143bhp engine as it looks quite good and not seen it on any others.

brochure link removed as I'm not allowed to post links

The rear bumper and twin oval separate exhausts are Accessories, £1500 bodykit option + 700 for the exhaust

Thanks for the link, that's very handy. I can't seem to find the storage pack though which is available as £100 option, any idea where I can find out what this is?

I have the 'variable boot floor' in the Octavia which was an option that is basically just a false boot floor (I don't know where they get the variable part from) that I like as it raises the floor for the dog (he's not that big so it lets him see out the window), means I can hide stuff under the floor which is less obvious than the main luggage cover and it gives a flat load bay area when the seats are flat. From looking at pictures of the Exeos it looks like some of them have something similar but I'm not sure if it's standard or not.

Look in the spare wheel well, there should be a vehicle data sticker in there (left hand side, in theory).

It will show the power output of the engine in kW, for the 170bhp engine this will be 125kW.

A copy of the same sticker should also be in the handbook.

It should also show the engine type code, which in my 59 plate is a CAHA engine.

So from what I can tell the storage pack is just a box under the passenger seat and is standard on the estate, also the 170 is easily identified the by the three letters TDI on the wing being in red.

One thought I had, is there any easy way to identify the sport? I've looked through the current Seat Exeo brochure but I guess the range has changed a bit since 2010/2011.

Tinted rear windows, the mouldings on the bottom of the doors are bigger and stick out like on the b6/7 Audi a4 s line, privacy tinted rear windows and hid's... So if it has all them its a sport. And we'll worth having.. ESP if you can find a sport tech model (but annoyingly if its a tech you get the normal lounge seats in leather not the sports seats with the bigger bolsters... But I have to be honest the lounge seats in the wife's exeo are just about as buckety as the seats in my a4 s line..so it's no massive loss the better dash, radio and leather is worth the trade off imho
