IIRC - you only need vag-com if you have esp

you will want your engine running so the abs pump is 'on'

and really it's a 2 person job to do a pukka job of it (one to open/close the nipple, one to pump the pedal)

have you done it ever before? if not, buy a haynes manual for a golf iv - that'll confirm the order you need to do it in.

WARNING M0rk...

Pedal pumping can result in folded seal in m/c

Pressure bleed or ABS cycle if you can to prevent this.
(Golf m/c seal rolled when I did this :( )

VAG-COM has brake bleed sequence in it. It works very well on any ABS'd car, not just those with ESP.

El cheapo Gunsons pressure bleed kit I have driven off a car tyre works a treat for single person bleeding.

iirc a presure bleed kit from the spare only needs something like 3 psi of presure.my easy bleed does anyhoo;)

agreed bill - but i don't like pressure bleeders so use man power & top up the fluid

can't accidentally connect a 50psi spare then.

HELP

Looks like I will be fitting Dangels Brakes now that he has finally got his new wheels ;) , Just quickly read this thread and from it I gather that the best way to bleed the system is to use a VAG-COM, does anyone in the Cambridgre area have VAG-COM and if so could we borrow it, or is it easy and cheap enough to buy the cable and software?

Next question is how easy is it to invoke the ABS bleed cycle, does it do the whole system in one go or does it sequence from wheel to wheel????

Any help is appriciated

Pop into Halfords and get yourself a Gunsons Easy Bleed kit. Works of tyre pressure, (max 1 bar tho for your car) and will be a good method.

Can some one just confirm that using the Gunson kit means there is no risk of the master cylinder seal folding? :)
