My Leon FR TDI is about 50 miles away from needing a 30k service and brake fluid change, so i've ordered the parts and booked my car in for the work to be done next week.
Get in my car this morning and i hear that dreaded "BEEEEEP" and the oil light starts flashing. My car is parked on a flat piece of road, so i check the dipstick and find there is NO OIL on it! Luckily i buy 5 litres of Millers oil when it gets serviced, so had a 1/2 litre spare in the shed which was enough to top it up (luckily).
This is the first time i've needed to top the oil up, so it's just my luck it would happen days before a service is due. I planned to keep all the 1/2 litres of oil from the future servicing so i had enough by the time an expensive service is due, but not any more :(
Oddly enough, my car is not smoking at all now, but over the last 2 months it started to a bit (i assumed it was down to the colder weather) so if your car has started smoking recently, might be an idea to check your oil ;)

How quickly did the oil go out of it or how long since was last checked? Bit stupid of seat not having a low oil light, i know the light there is low pressure and should check, but low oil level (end if dipstick area) would be nice!

Very strange for the car to go through quite a lot of oil (4-5 litres?) like that? Not like it's an old car either!

I'll confess that i haven't checked the oil in about 2 months (normally do it weekly) but as its never used a drop i let it slip a bit.
It only took 1/2 a litre to bring it back on to the dipstick, so it wasn't run dry, but it was unusual as i've never known it to use any oil.
I'll have the underside checked over when it goes for a service incase of any leaks, but i suspect it due to high milage (2,000 miles per month).

These VW TDI's do have quite a thirst for oil! Mine goes thro about 1/2 a litre to a litre between services.

1/2 a litre over 10,000miles or so , isnt a thirst really. id say thats rather respectable. Although i doubt i went through that over 25k in my passat tdi. i have not had the leon long enough to compare

Light come on again this morning and got the beep too.
Will get vagcom on it later to make sure the sensor isn't playing up. Both mornings its been below 2 degrees with a heavy frost, so i'm wondering if the weather is a factor.

Ehat about turbo oil seals and lines? they still intact? what about the intercooler. if no other visible leaks and not a huge amount of smoke the oil has to go somewhere?

I'm not concerned about it, just a bit gutted it couldn't have gone 2 more days so would have had a full oil change and not had to use up the spare oil i was keeping.
All is fine from what i can see, but i'll get the lads to give it a look over from underneath when the oil is being dropped.
Might just turn out to be the sensor, in which case it will be an easy enough fix and fairly cheap.
