Hi everyone,

Right ive just spent a good 2 hours cleaning my car. I got a new digi camera this week and have had a bit of work done on my car over the past few weeks so thought it was a good time to show you all my cars progress and to get some idea's and advice.

First, a shot of the engine bay. Not as clean as it could be but i'd ideally like to paint the inlet or have it polished. Had the OMP strut put in 2 weeks ago when it went in for its MOT. Car was good as gold on the MOT and went straight through ! - think the brace looks great.

Had the coilovers fitted yesterday. Got the ones from Phil Jackson on the recomendation of Crezz and a few others and although they took ages to come, for the price you cant argue. I just love the look and cant stop going to look out the window at it.

Ive had some real agro with the exhaust system. I went to a performance place in walsall. They did the system on my 8v which was awesome but they really messed this one up. Its been back 3 times now and touch wood, fingers crossed all the banging and vibrations have now stopped and its sounds just right. I wont be going back though !!

Had these made for my misses white 8v, and now after the good clean i gave it I thought my 16v was ready for them to be added. ( i have extra's if anyone wants to buy some ) - just a little touch. I dont normally do stickers but these are only small and are very subtle

I work with a few lads who are big into golfs and VW's in general, so i added these Wolfsburg door pins just to annoy them. lol

As for the time being on externals thats me done as ive spent a few quid over the past few months on parts, MOT, tax, insurance...ect ect and with xmas and what not i need to calm it. However it will be going in for a Custom Code Remap before xmas at Midland VW. The guys down there have really looked after my 16v and my misses 8v over the past few months and I wont take my cars anywhere else now.

I'd love to get some input from you lot and your thoughts and idea's on where i can take it.

That is a nice motor. The wheels look in good condition. Your engine bay isnt actually that dirty for a 9-10 year old car.

Was that car on ebay?? Im sure a saw it a few months back and Im sure it had a really low mileage on it.

Not sure they'll be able to remap it...

Yeah, got it off ebay. 1st week of sepetember. Mileage is 58k !! which was the major buying point for me.

you cant see in the pics but the passenger front wing is a real mess ! and that was my bargaining tool. As for the wheels they come up very well. I think the camera has been kind to them but saying that for 10 year old wheels they are looking good.

Remap wise, ive asked the questions and the figures suggest a gain of 15 - 20 bhp. Maybe i should have said superchip instead of remap....but then again i will look into it as M0RK, your knowledge will be better than mine as there is a good chance that i have gone wrong.

maybe 10bhp, but you'd get that back for free if you direct some cold air at that open filter.

what was up with the wing? and how much did you end up paying?

the guy i brought it off said someone kicked it and although he got behind it and pushed it out its sill not perfect and there is a bit of paint cracking and some bodged touching up.

as for the cold air feed, will it make that much different, i did have a pipe in but took it out ?

i did have plans for a decat but it was through the same place that ballsed up the exhaust system so i didnt have it in the end ???

i take it different remap / chipping companies offer different results ???

cold air intake will make more difference than chip tuning....

deffo cold air to gain a bit.. for the price you would pay on a 'chip' the gains are pretty small and as m0rk says, can be gotten from elsewhere

what you think about the decat then ???? rather than the chip / remap ?

Also, someone mentioned mid week about chips and them not working as well with mods and with a near standard engine ? just though spending the £300 on that would be better ?

£300 isn't worth it... the 'part' is pence, the file won't be altered - so it's virtually worthless.

decat might be worthwhile, but get them to put flanges on the existing cat & flanges on the DP too - so you can easily swap it for MOT

Thanks m0rk, i would have happily gone out and handed over mastercards money on a chip / remap - i will defo reconsider now and look to go back down the DEcat route.....with the view to looking to gain extra HP through other sources.

ive got a decat on mine, sounds really really raspy and seemed to remove the odd flat spot

decat won't do that much for you either though... all at the top end, while losing bottom end torque.

fair enough, but there not that expensive so i feel alot better about going for one of them rather than an expensive chip.

Think i might try my de badged grill tomorrow.....i think i need some german plates for summer show time.

Good idea, I don't think you'll lose any power with that.
