Fr cr 170.
Does anyone else accidentally select third gear instead of first sometimes. There isn't much feel to the different gears. Could the selector rods or linkages be worn that much? 56000 miles. Changing gear feels like stirring a bag full of custard and golf balls with a stick of old celery.

This is my major bugbear about these cars. I've got an '11 Cupra and it's exactly the same mate.

I changed the gear linkage end bushes for the DD ones and it's helped with accuracy a lot. Also had a gearbox oil change and it helped with the feel but, compared to any other car I've ever driven, the gearbox is the worst I've ever used. My Mazda 6 was the nicest: short throw, accurate and very nice feel.

You won't ever get rid of the sensation of stirring thick porridge, but you can minimise it.

I always thought the LCR we had wasn't as good in the gearbox department as the previous FR 211. Are they the same box?

Same box, 02q, can be different gearing in them though.

Don't just do the shifter linkage, also do the 3 bushing on the gearbox that hold the linkage.

Else just go for the dieselgeek shifter+gearbox bushings = job done

Ah, I bought the whole kit to do the linkage guides but couldn't be bothered. Might have to do it then.

Engine/gearbox mounts can also have a negative impact on the shifting. A lower gearbox mount insert can firm it up without causing to much NVH.
