I know, I know - asked many times before - but I can't myself decide on a figure

Hey all,

The idea's bouncing around in my head now - with some major life changes happening (This week we've had an offer on a house accepted etc) I'm trying to find a decent value to put on my car, should I decide to sell it over the next few months or so.

***********************************************************

MY03 Platinum Grey Metallic 2003 plate Leon Cupra 1.8 20VT, it has just under 80k miles on the clock, full leather interior, including leather centre armrest, and all the usual Cupra bits and bobs. It's in good condition in general, although alloys could do with a refurb, and the usual stone chips, and a "fixable" dent in the front wing. I MIGHT get these sorted before the sale...

I have RR proof for 200bhp and 248lbft, tons and tons of receipts, FSH etc.

So peeps - what do you recon it's worth? I've done various online valuations, but they don't take into account (for good or bad) the modifications that have been completed. I'd guesstimate at around £7.5k? Or perhaps remove some of the mods and sell seperately...

Comments and figures appreciated everyone! Thanks

Or am I in a dreamworld with that figure?

Online valuations are between 5k and 8k..... but thats a big difference IMO.

that's as maybe mate - it needs a bit of work to make it mint again (mainly just small niggles that I've just not got around to fixing) but I don't know whether it's worth me fixing it myself - especially if the value is only around the 5.5k mark!!!

To be honest mate unless an enthusiast wants it with the mods you are better off selling them seperately. Mods tend "NOT" to add much in the way of value to a car when sold on unless to an enthusiast who can appreciate them.

What mods also do is raise insurance quotes and if applicable invalidate warranties so lots of people prefer standard setups etc.

It is an awesome car still mate and agree with colonelk that mods might be better to be sold on here than with the car

I do already realise that mate - which is why I asked for people to give rough values in its CURRENT state.

I know that only peeps from here would buy in current state - but - I need to know if it's worth me converting it all back to semi-standard or not.

Yeah - i know - trouble is - a lot of the mods are not worth removing.

For example - suspension - to remove it and reinstall old kit is gonna cost around £150 in labour - which is probably the price I'd get for selling it seperately - so is there any real point in doing it - IMO the answer is No.

Same can be said for the FMIC, wheels, exhaust, Revo, etc.

However, strut brace(s), sill guards, ICE, SPS, Shortshifter etc can easily be sold seperately - and probably will be too - unless someone comes in with a good price for the lot.

Its one of those situations. If you have all the original bits and the time to be bothered, then change it all back and stick her up for 7.5k and sell the bits ontop. Unmodded cars always sell well to dads and things, which improves your market and gives you the chance to probably even ask 8k for a car with that kind of mileage.

In reality though I imagine you are like most people and either dont have the original parts or cant be ars*d changing them. In which case sell her as she is, but make sure you make it clear in the advert that you are an enthusiast and not some pikey with a few quid who wanted a dump valve to make silly noises cruising round the drive through at mcdonalds looking for high school girls to impress with his sub woofer system and go faster red seat belt pads.

I digress... If you sell it modded I reckon Id go for 8, you can always be haggled down, if you need the sale. but make sure you state the enthusiast bit.

just my opinion, hope it helps.:funk:

don't know how you'd sell this separate though:

thanks mate - nice to know someone else thinks it might be worth somewhere towards the top of the 5-8k bracket i've been suggested by the t'internet :)

I do have a lot of the standard bits - and will remove and replace the easy ones - but as mentioned above a fair few of them would HAVE to stay on the car.

I know it's not a Seat but I traded my Fiat Stilo in for my FR. The book value was £2100, reason being that it was an 03 reg with 72K on the clock and no service history but with mods on it, the dealer upped his offer to £4700. The bodywork was mint though, no stone chips or scratches and the mods were;

Powerflow manifold SS system with twin exit exhaust,
First Stilo in the UK with lowered Eibach suspension,
17" Wolfrace Suzuka alloys (again, first in the UK with them wheels),
One off Pipercross induction kit,
Front and rear strut braces,
and some other bits and bobs.

I hadn't spent anywhere near as much on it as the difference in offers would suggest but just because you've modded a car doesn't mean that you'll get less for it! Keeping a portfolio, receipts and pics of all the work carried out helps too.

 I figured it was some thing like that. I certainly reckon you could get that for the car, Im not sure on the prices around your way, but up here in the north it would be possible at the moment.

If you were interested and we didnt live so far away I would be up for a part ex on the wheels, but mine are the sh*te old skool! Leon wheels, and the postage would be a bit on the large side!:flamed: :rifle: :laser: :joystick: :bounce: :coolthumb :clown:  sorry, just found the more smilies button!

Good luck with the sale and the new house etc etc!

Infact Pabs, Ive just seen your website and seen how mint those wheels look on the car. If you do fancy a swap of some sort, be it cash or wheels and cash Im interested! If not I wont take offence to your put down. ;)

yeh - thanks Pete - I had a gut feeling that 7.5k would be max return from the car - just means i need to sell a lot of it seperately first.

When/if I sell it - I'll stick it up on here as it is - if no interest then a lot of mods will be removed and sold seperately.

Tompotts - I don't think I'd consider swapping the wheels for the old 16's I'm afraid - had you had the 17" facelift alloys I might have considered it though!

Having tried to sell my car recently with a few mods (certainly less than yours) I realised that noone wanted it.

Took the mods off myself apart from the Revo St1 and A pillar gauges and sold them separately. Got £8k for mine via a dealer and a straight swap so if your car is worth without the mods an amount of money that won't be enough to buy sthing that you like (and will be troublefree as urs is) then I'd say keep it!!

My new diesel ibiza is nowhere near as exiting as my petrol FR but I paid no money for getting it and has already made me money via consumption and work mileage.

So this one is a keeper till the wheels fall off:)

Well - when i move - the plan is to get a bit of a project car - I can get the train to work as it's only about 12 miles (might even cycle it) - and i would be living about 0.1 miles from the station anyway.

So the car in question is a Toyota Supra TT, to be converted to a single tubby at some stage (i think) - and I can pick one of these up, in decent nick, from anywhere around 8k-10k, unless i go for a pre-modified one (and save money in the long run, but less fun involved) for around 12k-16k.

So realistically, if I got somewhere in the region of 8k total for the car, and the bits, etc, then I'd not need much more to get the Supra :)
