ibiza 1.4 lacks power sometimes

My family ibiza starts and runs ok but some times it suffers from lack of power ie put your foot down and nothing happens take your foot of and it recovers but try to rush it mode after this ??? is it fuel starvation ? temp gauge at bit erratic but not getting above centre .

we did have a smell of burning and it pulled up so my wife parked it up ,went to it later and it ran ok, removed the catalyst temporarily and the burninig wet away but the running got better but the lack of pull remains.

can any one kindly advise????

fuel starvation, .. change your fuel filter....

....suffering lack of power... clean your throttle body housing........

... when was the last time it was serviced? ... has the timeing belt been done?
