Hi Guys,

I realise this has been talked about to some length on here, mainly with regards to the pre-facelift engines.

Im waiting on a factory order Ibiza Cupra, which should hopefully be delivered in November 2014. I just wondered if anyone with a facelift engine is experiencing oil consumption issues, or have all the issues been ironed out by VAG now? Whats a typical consumption rate of a perfectly healthy engine?

Having had 2 diesels before, a VAG 2.0 TDI CR and a BMW 120d, neither of these have ever consumed oil, despite rumours they should have. So excuse my beginner questions here:

Will the Ibiza tell me when to put oil in, if so - does it tell you when the oil is at the minimum mark on the dipstick, or when its dangerously low (ie running dry) - the last thing we want is to do damage to the engine.

Secondly, how do you know how much oil to put in, do you just put a little bit in, check the dipstick and then repeat until the levels correct?

Thirdly, ive never understood the different types of oil, so what should and shouldn't you use?

Sorry for some very basic questions here, but ive never EVER had to put oil in a car - feel free to educate me!

Thanks,
Ben

Mine (with the updated CTHE engine) has just had its first service at 10k, and didn't use any oil in that period.

Hi mate my Cupra is a Nov 2013 reg'd on a 63 plate.

I've had no oil consumption issues, especially like those discussed on here. I'm on just under 10k as we speak and I think I've used about a quarter of the oil that was in the car when I got it new. All facelift Cupras (and some very late pre-facelift ones) come with the updated CTHE engine (as opposed to the old CAVE one) which have mostly had the oil issues fixed, so you should be fine.

5w30 or 5w40 is the oil most seem to use, all depends on personal preference the brand you should go for. Filling it up is as you described - put a wee drop in, check the dipstick, and do again until it's full. Don't overfill it though, it's just as dangerous as having no oil in whatsoever.

Mine uses next to no oil when it's been serviced. When it's coming to about 8000-9000 miles on the service it starts using it.

The Ibiza has no oil gauge warning just a pressure warning, by then it's to late. I check mine after each tank, if it's in the hatched area it will just need a top up. The dip stick shows the first litre. So poor a little at a time. No more than 250ml.
