Hi. My neighbour has backed into my passenger door totally smashing it up. It's a 60 plate. I have taken it to the dealer where I bought it new and have had a quote for a completely new door and fitting for £1400. Does this seem a reasonable amount. She does not want to go through insurance but is probably not expecting it to cost this much. Also as it has a 12 year anti corrosion warranty, I am told by the dealer that this will be void if not done by a SEAT dealer. I realise he is after the work but if I did have rust issues some years down the line I imagine the dealer would try and get out of it if it was done by some one else. Finally if it does go through her insurance, can I choose to have it done at the dealer (which is insurance approved) or would I be forced to take it to whereever the insurance company told me. My first new car which I saved up ages for, am gutted about it :( Thanks.

I'd contact at least 2 more SEAT dealers and get them to quote over the phone. £1400 sounds absurd [:@]

As long as the repair use's SEAT OEM parts and is resprayed to the manufactures standard the warranty will still be valid. The door anyhow will have a separate warranty and being a complete removable part will have no effect on the rest of the body after fitting anyhow.

Thanks all. I will get some more quotes and take it from there.

does the door need replacing or can it be knocked out?

My local dealer wanted best part of £700 to replace and spray my rear bumper.
Local bodyshops were in the region of £2-300 to heat up, reshape and respray it.

I went to another Seat Dealer who confirmed it needed a new door but they did not do their bodywork repairs on site so he sent me the other side of town to an approved repairers who quoted me £800 but imo did not seem to have a professional attitude, and there was nothing on the paperwork to show he was a Seat/VW approved dealer although he was Mazda approved and the dealer who sent me was a Seat/Mazda so couldn't quite work it out, anyway, took lower quote back to original dealer and asked if it was the best price he could do and managed to get a reduced quote which my neighbour (who caused the damage) has agreed to pay for and the car is now booked in so hopefully all well that ends well. Thanks.

Glad you got it sorted! Dealers lvoe quoting absurd prices. Hence yet another reason insurance is so expensive. Because the people that fix the cars change prices in fairy land!

I had a ding in my mk6 fiesta and put a pretty bad crease down the boot lid. Went to ford dealer who sent a quote back of alomst 800! for a new rear bumper(no damage to that...) new tailgate, painted and fitted...

I went to a well known and respected place where "scotch John" sorted it out for me, even did a touch up on the front bumper for me for the round figure of £120. and when I went to pay him, I said: "Lets call it £110, I need that tenner more than you do, im 19!" He went with it and we were both happy :)

Thats some saving but, if that rear bumper has damage behind, it will have damaged the impact structure of the bumper, same with the tailgate if it needed internal repairs, so if it were to now be rear ended there is no impact protection which is not helpful to anyone sitting in the rear.

Its just a reminder to me never to buy a car thats had any bodywork damage to it. . .

Its quite hard to explain but basically only the tailgate /bootlid touched the thing that I reversed into at parking speed, werid it was a beam sticking out of the wall. So the impact beam was perfectly fine.
