Was my first proper car so just wanted it to look good and insurance was £2500 so wasn't too bad for 17.

 You're the same age as me (20) and I felt ripped off paying £1350 in my first year!! (1.2 2001 Corsa C) I would never pay more than £1500 on principle!

The ibiza's are far nicer though, and the torque just makes me grin constantly!

When in was 17 my corsa wasn't even 6 months old so I thought the insurance wasn't too bad

Noop less chance of a 10 plate or such getting stolen or broken into then a 1999 fiesta. The safety ratings are alot higher too. I've got quotes for a brand new Skoda fabia Vrs 180 and it was less than my 1.4 56 clio.

Was that with Admiral, Elephant or Bell? They, for some reason, class the 1.4TSI as a Nasp 1.4, if you run a quote for a nasp 1.4 fabia I think you'll find it is the same price.

However if you run a quote for, say, an 08 20vT ibiza cupra, it will be considerably more than if you ran a quote for an 09 1.4tsi, same power and only 1 year younger but the price differs greatly. £1200 difference in my case.

Its cheaper for me to insure a brand new 1.4TSI cupra worth £20k + than it is for me to insure my 08 1.2 ibiza. £300 cheaper for cupra.

Makes no sense really, I agree with you, and I believe it is because they have less crash figures for MK5 than MK4.

I agree

As well as the safety difference, it is the sort of person they imagine you to be: if it is one spends more on a car is more likely to look after it etc. or doesn't car if as it is old and cheap etc. like how TPFT or Fully comp doesn't make much difference either

by that token the length that you'vs owned the car should be taken into account. When i bought it it wasnt regarded as the boy racer car it is now,

Yeah not only that but people driving 12k+ cars i would imagine would drive them more careful than a 1k car and when their new they come with new tires and warranty so people are less likely to hold off needed repairs.

My insurance is up for renewal in 2 months and it made no difference to the mock quotes which lies disappointing, the differences for me personally, is my post code as Theres no crime here, 2 years ncb and i'll be over 25 this year, the insurance went from £1100 this yeat, to £734 next

That was expensive this year for you as a 24 year old, mine's £800ish @ 22 all mods declared with admiral :) 3 years no claims though. At least you have a nice reduction to look forward to

It made a difference for me between just buying the car and owning it for a year. Will have to see come June if 1-2 years does anything
