Ibiza mk5 1.6 CR TDi - power and fuel economy issue?

Hey guys,

For a bit of background, I have a mk5 ibiza 1.6 CR TDi that I recently had remapped (through shark performance) - 105bph to 135 (according to their info). Anyway I also saw a pretty decent improvement in fuel economy (from around 49mpg to around 57mpg).

I was recently out driving (mainly motorways) then got into the city and noticed when I was stopped at the traffic lights the engine was juddering a bit which was making the car shake when stationary. When I pulled away I noticed a puff of white/blue smoke in the rear view mirror. The car had very uneven acceleration and felt down on power.

Since then the car hasn't produced any more smoke, but has felt low on power (similar to before it was remapped) and the fuel economy is also much lower (possibly slightly lower than when it was remapped). The only thing I had done differently that day was that I filled up with 'city diesel' from Sainos, but surely this couldn't have been the issue and since then have just filled up at BP.

I am not sure if I am being paranoid but the turbo seems to be louder than usual, but have checked all the pipes connecting it and have found nothing wrong...? I have also just had it serviced and they didn't seem to notice anything either.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

(sorry for the essay)

cr engines don't appreciate supermarket fuel for a start. It may have been carrying out a regeneration of the dpf, hence the smoke.

Ah ok, that makes sense. I didn't seen any lights come on the dash though. Is it possible that the ECU somehow reset itself to factory settings?!

from what youve said and also what MJ has said above 1. these cars dont seem to like cheap fuel and
2. your dpf may have been in regen and only if the level is above 50% i believe would you see a warning light on the dash? (correct me if im wrong) my suggestion is to get the dpf out physically and also have the software deleted off the ecu, try filling up with shell nitro+ and see if this makes any difference as my car seems 10 times better on it and therefore is all i use now

ohhh and i get 65+ MPG lol

I agree about the dpf regen, however the rest of this statement is incorrect. Have covered a total of 180,000 miles in an Ibiza, Golf and Leon, all with the 1.6 Tdi cr engine and not had any issues what so ever to do with supermarket fuel. My Golf did 130,000 miles on the cheap stuff, and is still going now.

That's just your experience and opinion and judging by the milage you're not pottering about round town doing 5 miles a week. It's been proven so many times over that premium fuel is far better than supermarket fuel for not just cr but any diesel engine.

If you haven't had any problems with 3 cars running over 180k that doesn't offset the thousands of other vehicles that have and a direct cause has been not just supermarket fuel but poor fuel in general.

dpfs, egrs, injectors and fuel pumps are just a few components that don't agree with lesser quality fuel and often have no other contributing factors or reason for failure other than poor fuel.
