Yeah it looked nice (red) and was good spec but not for me. Screen was tiny and it just seemed to me that it had been deigned to look good inside and that came first

So how long has VW owned Seat as VW is supposed to be renowned for reliability

If you open the hood, you will notice everything in there has VW or Audi (logo) writen all over it. In the Leon Cupra, if you prise away the Seat badge on the engine cover, tada! It's a VW logo under!
Also on the Ibiza (at least on time) if you look closely at the rear disc brake caliper, you will see an Audi logo there, same brakes I guess as in the A1. Only thing in the engine bay that had anything with Seat logo on it, is the Bi-Xenon headlight unit in mine, as no other VW group cars use the same.

That is interesting and just what the sales guy said (thought he might be saying anything) I did see a review where they said the Ibiza was made in same factory as Audi. The fact they put seat logo over the vw is quite funny....

It's the opposite. some Audi are made in SEATs Spanish factories. If VAG trust them to build Audi's the quality should be good, like when Ford turned Halewood from making Escorts to Jaguars.

Really interesting how many cars are made by the same companies. I understand Nissan is now owned by Renault

When I bought my first SEAT back
In 2000 the dealer took me to the workshop and showed me some spares. All boxes, Filters and other bits had SEAT, VW and Audi all over the box. He sold me on the cost (then) of SEAT priced spares v the others with the spares being the same units bit obviously dearer for VW and Audi.

...along with Dacia and Lada. God knows how bad they are since the Premium label cars (Renault) are awful.

Peugeot now own Opel/Vauxhall too. The laughably named Grossland X / Grandland X is a thinly disguised Pug 3008.

No, that bit is wrong, where any parts are shared across models or/and across marques, the part will have the same part number and so same price.

Only relaying what I was told in 2000. Things have changed with SEAT becoming more appealing to people since then..

Even if the price was the same I was happy to buy my first SEAT Leon 1.6S in Black.

Toledo is now built by Skoda along side Rapid I think, and all the 1.2TSI engines were built in a Skoda factory, probably the same for the 1.0TSI.

Worst of all, you pull the stalk down for wipers not up. Wtf is that all about.....

Wow.
You wouldn't have been happy with a centre accelerator Alfa or Maserati would you? How about a column shift manual?
I don't think there is an ISO standard layout for car controls yet :D.
I cant recall any problems going from a 2 FIAT family to a 2 SEAT family a few years back.

Although of this years crop of rentals
the Citroen control layouts are pretty alien to me now I'm used to VW.
Hyundai not so bad, Mini horrible, Renault awful.

Based on that I'm actually surprised the FIAT/SEAT changeover was so painless.

We are coming from a Citroen - Citroen Cactus which has been a brilliant car

From my experience you'll notice the step up to VW quality.

Although of the French cars we've had, the facelift AX Diesel was really very good at what it did - 30000 miles a year at 60 mpg in relative comfort.
