Ibiza trouble

My Ibiza is seriously sick. I was out for a drive last night and hit a puddle at about 30/40. I say puddle but you could have launched the f**king Titanic in it, must have been about 3 - 4 inch deep. I kept driving for about 15 mins after with no problems. It’s a Mk3 20vT.

However, this is where it all goes wrong, jumped in to go to work this morning and when I started it she lasted about 2 sec then cut out – with no warning lights or beeps. I tried again a few times with no luck.

I gave her one last try with a slight blip on the throttle and she burst into life but she won’t rev over 3000rpm when not in gear. While in gear it gets to around 3000rmp then stutters as if struggling to breath it does this to 4000rmp then ‘frees’ itself and rushes up to the redline.

It also stinks of fuel when running over 3500rpm. My engine management light came on when I hit the brakes AND my traction control light has come on and won’t go out.

I’m sh1tting myself, really not the best time of year for an expensive trip to the garage.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

when the car ran did it sound ok?

IF there is a smell of fuel then i'd look at either exhaust or fuel lines.

Get it jacked up and pull out all the electrical connectors that you can see and put them back on.

VAG-COM would be a much useful tool here if you can get a hold of it.

Check the usual fluids and stuff before going much further. and if your running the stock airbox then get it opened up and checked for water.

Errr yeah I had a verry very lucky escape with this just a couple of weeks ago! (Think mine was the first of the winter?? http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=103692 )

Basiclly get the airbox off, get the water out (trust me it'll be full of it!), MAF and housing in the airing cupboard overnight which will make sure it doesn't get any worse!

I had exactly the same symptoms as you, but mine got better the longer I left it after taking the lake out the airbox..

Sounds like I was really really lucky.. Check that thread for some damn good advice!

Good luck fella!
