Ibiza F2 Widetrack, first pics

Hi

Since last sprint of the year, have been working away at improvements for next year. One of these is wider track - and this means wider arches - so check this out ! just been doing a trial fit and loads of work to be done yet (currently held on with masking tape) but the fit is actually pretty good - I was so chuffed I thought I'd take a few pics:. The wheel is a 15x8 ET25 - looks tiny LOL.

Ave it

That is rather nice... Did I read you'd put passat wishbones (or what ever they're called) on it to widen the track? Or did you do something else? Custom driveshafts?

The suspension / steering / driveshafts / hubs etc. is mix and match from various VAG cars, nothing especially 'custom' although the brakes will not be 'off the shelf' and the front ARB is (will be when it arrives) a tubular jobbie from ABD in the US. Still deciding what to do with the brakes, whether to say sod it and get full-on AP or Alcon set or something division 2 like Wilwood or HiSpec - part of this will depend on who gives me timely and sensible replies to the emails I have sent them all. As far as passenger ruides goes.....only got one seat matey LOL

is that using passat stuff ? was thinking of doing it on my mk2 !

Some of it is passat stuff - PAS tie rods, driveshafts (but 16V outer CV's to keep 4 bolt hubs)

But how on earth do you/did you figure what fits what and what's the right length/diameter, profile etc, etc?

some reading, some trial and error, one of the great things about cars nowadays is that manufacturers are really tight and they try to make as many different cars out of the same pieces as possible, a bit like lego. Once you read into it / study parts lists / etka etc, its clear that lots of bits can be mixed and matched. Then its a case of get down the scrappy, get bits and see if it will all go together. I buy some new bits from places like german and swedish as they are actually pretty cheap, more expensive bits are scrappy and renew bearings / clean up etc. Usually for tuning, you will be replacing bits with more robust bits so safety should be fine - but if you are in any doubt dont do it !

Thorough is my middle name...well no it isn't actually, its Achmel, anyways.....

News on the brake front - probably going with AP's, nice looking caliper called the CP4567, its actually a F3 caliper and will go under 13" wheels with a 22 x 280mm disk, so should fit no problem - radial mount, differential bore pistons, nice. My favourite Ferodo DS2500 or 3000 pads are available. Going to get BG Developments in BHam to sort mount brackets out. Have to say AP are a pleasure to deal with - excellent technical help at end of phone.
