OK I am pretty OK with cars until it comes to electrics, so can someone please answer the questions I have before I screw things up :)

I am looking at replacing my HU with an aftermarket one, I want to keep the OE colour and am changing as want a HU that will do MP3's

I am thinking of getting this HU http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/kenwood-kdcw3537a-p-5605.html but will take suggestions of others with OE colour upto £100 value.

I am just wondering what else I need other than the facia adaptor out of the below please

Do I need.....

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/multifit-wiring-adaptor-p-1303.html

Do I need.....

Also I have a Bluetooth car kit installed (see sig) and need to know if the HU will support the audio mute wire, also which wire will this be as I have found a single white wire that if I remove it from the ISO plug the stereo does not mute when on a call, is there only one wire for audio mute and will I know where to put the wire so the carkit mutes my new HU?

Thanks :-o

If the only reason you are changing is to play MP3's then yes that HU will do the job. I doubt for that money it will sound much better than the standard HU though.

You will need the facia ( Autolead FP-18-00 ) and an Aerial adapter. You don't need any wiring adapters as the HU will have bullet connectors on the loom to swap +ve and Ign over.

As for audio mute, you'll have to find out the specs to see if it has one. Probably not at that sort of money, but I may be wrong.

That head unit does have an audio mute wire. And the sound quality is surprisingly good too. Just because it's not top of the range, doesn't mean it's not an improvement.

I fitted a very similar one to a Clio recently and it's a good, simple headunit. It's easy to use, it sounds good, it's got all the features you need for a basic system and it feels very solid too, not cheap at all.

The reason I said about the sound quality is that the Leon speakers hold back the standard HU so much, it takes a bloody good HU to make a difference.

I'm running the top line Eclipse HU in my R with the standard speakers. In the Ibiza it sounded awesome, in the Leon it's crap, better than the standard one, but still not great.

Cheers fella's not after a sound upgrade, I am happy with the current sound so will go for this HU I think, I will order the facia and the aeriel adapter but do I need the aeriel Booster thingy as well?
Also when you say swap +ve and Ign over why do I need to do that if the ISO plug fits direct? is that so the system holds memory when ignition is off?

If I need to do this, how will I know hwich wires are what?

I find this interesting, as my standard speakers are bloody superb! (for standard speakers...). I often hear different stories about the stock Leon speakers.... some say they are terrible and need to be ripped out asap... others say they are wonderful and have no desire to change them.

Towards the end of my time with my previous Celica, I had some Rockford Fosgate components in it and I can honestly, hand on heart, say that the Leon speakers are just as good if not better. I really don't have any desire to change them until I've bought everything else on my shopping list :)
I don't know if they used different types of speaker in the Leon? Mine are Blaupunkt and are damn good speakers.

Ash - It's definitely worth buying the powered aerial booster adaptor, it's only £10 and it makes a nice difference. Seems a shame to lose that option for the sake of a tenner.

The ISO wiring is standard, but the way in which some head units use it varies. The most you'll have to do is cut and swap the Red and Yellow power wires around. One is a permanent live and one is a switched (ignition fed) live. If they are the wrong way the unit will forget all it's settings when you turn it off as there is no permanent feed to store it all. Nice and easy to switch though, so no big deal :)
