ICE/Speaker upgrade

Hello all,

I have invested in a 2017 Xcellence and generally very happy with it so far. One thing that I do notice is that the sound is a bit lacking in both volume and bass. I was wondering if anyone has done any simple upgrades - Maybe an inline amp and some new speakers, either DIY or at a specialist installer?

I bought mine with the Seat Sound System.... It's not bad but found I had to reshape the frequency spectrum. The centre speaker is actually getting on for subwoofer so you get both the sub woofer based sound from the rear and the centre dash speaker. It's dimensions make it pretty much s second sub woofer. It's not the normal surround sound set up of a mid speaker with a tweeter in it.

Nowadays speakers are glued into the door panels rather than screwed.... Suspect Halfords don't sell speakers these days for DIY.... Will check one day. Gone are the days of unclipping the panel, changing speakers yourself.

Yes, it is a lot more difficult now! I changed the speakers in my VW T6 transporter and replaced them with a dedicated kit upgrade, but had to drill out the original speakers!!

Interesting, that. I thought the Seat Sound system would need an amp as well though? The sub isn't an active sub with a built in amp, surely?

No the Seat Sound System doesn't have an amp unlike the Golf offering at the time. That's fed off an optical output out of the infotainment system. Seat never got that at the time of the Seat Sound System. That is the "MOST" socket not used in the Seat Sound System.

Attached pages from the SSP163 for the 2016 launch. The Seat Sound System is the 10 speaker one. Other incarnation at the time were short of the central front and the sub woofer.

They are glued in these days so you cut the blob, replace and restick in. Youtube video on that.

It's the woofer not sub woofer. I'd sweet talk the parts number guy in a dealer and cross check. There is (was) a Seat parts sponsor on the board as well to buy from. The part number is the key. Google on the part number. There are parts web sites that come and go on the Internet which break Vag copyright, Russian but easier to get the part number off the parts department which has a legal online resource. It will be a common part between the Vag brand.

Blown suspect you mean the diaphragm has gone rather than a cabling error, someone has had it turned up too loud. You'd want to change the matching pair. The old days of paper speakers people would blow them in cars. I've been in cars with blown speakers with a team member. I would have thought the diaphragms would have held out better but probably not if driven too hard. We had a posh Mission speaker with a resin cone blown once so those polymer cones do go.

I'd still check thou if anything has changed.. These are the 2016-2020 pages of the parts catalogue that get re purposed with adverts and links by operators.... as said the sites come and go. I'd ignore the links out to guys and just concentrate on the numbers.
